Mittens Furniture/Appliances, Marshfield, WI Complaint - Mittens - Marshfield, Wi - SUCKS!!!!
MARSHFIELD, WISCONSIN -- We purchased a 50" HD-TV (RCA Scenium) in 2005. The big selling point was that Mittens had their own service people--and the service could be done in the home.
About 18 months after the purchase, we had a power surge during a storm, which blew out the t.v. We contacted our homeowners--which agreed to pay for the repair. Then we contacted Mittens, which actively advertises it's "service after the sale" in all of it's print and television ads. They were able to diagnose the problem over the phone and order the part. The service guy arrived to fix it. After removing the circuit board assembly and putting in another, he said he had a defective part, and wanted to take the entire t.v. back to Marshfield with him (we live about 1/2-hour away). It seemed more logical to take the little circuit board back and forth than to lug a 50” t.v. around. The service guy was NOT happy about that—made a few sarcastic remarks—and as he walked out the door he said, “I don’t feel like coming back here.” Because he had been quite rude to both me and my 4-year-old son, I told him that was probably best.
Immediately after he left, I called and spoke with the service manager, who informed me this was the ONLY service person available for house calls. I spent the rest of that day and much of the next day on the phone with our insurance co. (homeowners) who also attempted to help me find a repair person to come and fix the t.v., as well as with RCA’s customer service.
Unfortunately, businesses are no longer willing to service a television unless it was purchased at that location--which was one of the major reasons we bought this television at Mittens to begin with (they touted their in-home service from their in-house service department).
Mittens refused--both over the phone to me, and to my husband in person--to repair the television they sold us. Our insurance company reimbursed us for about 1/3 of what the set originally cost ($1200 of the $3600 we spent on the t.v.). We purchased the television from them based upon their claims of superior quality, longevity, and excellent service--NONE of which was true.
A couple of weeks after all this happened, I got a phone call from the OWNER of Mittens (to whom I had sent a letter about the situation). He was just as rude as his service person--and made it very clear he didn't think this was THEIR problem. Obviously, the attitude of the owner trickles down to it's employees at this place.
On a happy note: we eventually found someone to repair the t.v. and--after selling it and using the insurance money to buy a new one--we only ended up spending a few hundred extra. Since then, we've purchased a bedroom suite ($4000) all new appliances for our kitchen ($7500), washer/dryer with pedestals ($2500), a sleeper sofa ($800), and--just TODAY--a new sectional sofa for our living room ($2500)--NONE of which came from MITTENS.
