United States Postal Service Complaint - Priority Mail Is A Total Scam - Priority Mail

Complaint
Review by Barefootgal on 2007-08-14
DES MOINES, IOWA -- We sent a RUSH order of bridal jewelry directly from a Des Moines, Iowa post office to a Dallas, Texas home address via Priority Mail on August 7th. It is now August 14th and the bride-to-be NEVER received her jewelry. She flies out early on the 15th to travel to Anguilla for her wedding WITHOUT the jewelry that had MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME to go from Iowa to Texas. Priority Mail is a SCAM to get consumers to pay extra money for nothing other than the red white and blue envelopes. This is not the first time this has happened.

Where do these pieces of mail go? They never come back to the return address. No one can ever give me an explanation.

What does the postmaster say? I've never had a problem with Priority Mail. Always arrives in 1-2 days.

Did you write the correct address on the box?

Never had a problem either, always 1-2 days.

I've sent a few and they are always 1-2 days. Not bad paying less then 5 bucks to get practically 2nd day delivery.

Someone probably stole that QVC Cubic Zirconia and pawned it! LMAO!!

Priority? You should have spent the extra bucks and sent it EXPRESS! Must have been really important!

I have also had problems with Priority Mail--one was delivered to another address, a prescription was lost and never delivered, and just this week another package was lost and so far not found. I have also had success with 1-2 day deliveries, but when a package (or three) come up missing, that is what sticks in your mind. My 3 packages all had typed and correct addresses. I have to figure that either the postal employees are stealing mail or dumping it somewhere. Otherwise, where would it be?

Further, I am sorry that you had to receive all the other posts that were extremely rude and not helpful in the least. These people are what make this site so difficult to use. I apologize for them as they must be missing their sensitivity chip.

Priority Mail is not a Rush order. USPS does not guarantee delivery time for Priority Mail. If you want guaranteed delivery time send it Express.

Did not appreciate some of the comments ("didn't know they had jewelry in Iowa"). I am serious about this issue and those that post comments on this site should take the subject material serious, rather than use it for humor. We trusted the post office with a perfectly addressed piece of mail so how does it get lost? The mail has STILL not arrived in Dallas (sent on 8/7) so we have to end up refunding this customer for not receiving her jewelry on time. We sent it - in good faith - paying the extra fee for Priority Mail. For that rate the Post Office SHOULD guarantee delivery in 2-3 days. And this is NOT the first time this has happened.

O.K., they do have jewelry in Iowa, sorry about the humor.
If you are in the habit of sending jewelry via regular mail or priority mail without insuring at the time you hand it to the clerk at the post office, then you are just asking for trouble. When mailing anything of value, send it registered or insured. And if this isn't the first time you had lost Priority Mail, you should have learned your lesson - send it registered or insured.

Barefootgal, I am also still missing my package sent to me on 8/08/07. Must have been a really bad week for the post office. I totally understand your distress because I am going through the same thing. I sent a letter thru e-mail to the Postmaster General (address on this site) because I have also had several packages come up missing in the last few months. The local PO doesn't seem to care. I do wonder where the packages are ending up.

Well, I did get my package today, Barefootgal. A week late, but nonetheless, I did finally receive it. So, hopefully yours will arrive too--also late, but hopefully not lost. Good luck.

barefoot, dianec...FedEx and UPS are the only way to go for quick shipments. USPS is like any other cheap alternative, you get what you pay for.

jktshff1--I have to have my mail forwarded to my current location so I am forced to use the USPS premium forwarding service. They ship your mail once-a-week to wherever you are. It actually has worked great in the past (to other locations). FedEx and UPS are excellent, but they don't do mail forwarding. Thanks for the advice though.

Well--I was pleasantly surprised to get a call from the Consumer Protection Agency-USPS division. They are going to put a delivery confirmation on all my future packages (for the next month) for free to see what the problem with my forwarded packages is. They are also going to investigate the local PO and try to straighten out all the discrepancies. It only took a few days for them to respond to my e-mail to the Postmaster General, which isn't bad considering all the complaints they must have. So, I guess the moral is, don't give up! Someone really is listening out there.

I have had many packages sent priority mail. About 15 percent are lost/stolen/delivered to wrong address. Another 15 percent take 4-10 days, even though the post office advertises 2-3 business day. I wish they could be sued for false advertising, but since they are a government agency HAHA, WHAT A JOKE..that will never happen...None of my legitimate complaints have ever been resolved, so now I ship FED EX OR UPS...what a weight lifted off my shoulders..costs a little more, but well worth it..

I'm currently having a problem with the Iowa USPS as well...something about Iowa! Haha. I ordered two textbooks from two completely different sellers. They both shipped the books one or two days after payment, and somehow both books got scanned in Iowa TWO WEEKS ago and that is the last I've heard of them. It is ridiculous! I NEED those books!
