Mel Clayton Ford Complaint - Mel Clayton Ford Car Buying Nightmare - Customer Service

Customer Service - Complaint
Review by jdhamblett on 00--
PHOENIX, ARIZONA -- Once every 5-6 years, we all go through the dreaded "car buying" experience with reservations and trepidation. Well this was no exception. It started out fine. My wife and I did our due diligence by researching the 2000 Ford Expeditions. We settled on leasing and estimated what we thought was a fair leasing cost. After shopping the local dealerships, we negotiated a great deal with Mel Clayton Ford and got a good trade with our car. We also got the salesman to throw in a tether for our baby seat. So far, so good, right? Wrong. After several weeks of enjoying our new empowering vehicle, it dawned on my wife that we had not received our tether. After numerous calls to our salesman, we finally got a hold of him, about 5 days later. My wife explained the situation nicely, but expressed her disappointment when the salesman then started to get angry. The salesman basically called my wife a liar, then hung up on her. At no time was she being rude (I was standing there). Of course, I tried to call back several times and the salesman wouldnt take our call, nor call back. Several messages were left with the general manager, and the owner. NOTHING. So, my wife and I decided to forget it, and get on with out lives. But thats not all. A month and a half past, and I noticed that out temporary tags expired. Wonderful!!! This time, I called and disguised myself as a new buyer and left a message for any salesman. Guess what!!! I got a call back and hour later! Then I admitted my deception and they forwarded me directly to the person in charge of registration. After explaining the situation several times, they finally admitted that they screwed up our paperwork, never called us, and consequently, never registered our vehicle with AZ. Fine, they decided to send us a new temporary tag, after we had to go down and resign the papers…..what a waste of our time...with no apology! Guess what...in the meantime, I got pulled over for the expired tags! The police officer was very understanding and let me go on my way. But what a moment! Since then we have finally received our tags, but we will never shop there again.

I asked my wife regarding the tether....they didnt throw it in as an extra....its part of Fords infamous "Child Safety" initiative. Still tetherless.

Lesson learned: Get all the "Free" stuff the sales slime/man prior to signing the final contract. If you have to wait on signing the vehicle contract that is okay as that will give him the incentive to provide the stuff he has orally said he would. I was screwed out of a "free" trailer hitch for my wife's suv that the sales man said "Free- yes and we'll put it on." but the sales contract said nothing about it. I ended up buying one from another dealer and installing it at the other dealer.
