Dish Network Informative - Charged for free update
WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA -- We had a lighning strike that blew out the Dish
somehow; we were told the service call to re-establish service would be no charge. This was true.
While the technician was here, he noted that we
didn't have the most current upgrade, and asked
if he wanted us to install it at no charge. We said sure.
We were billed $49 for the upgrade. We paid the regular bill and disputed the $49 we were told was free. Our past due status was displayed on the TV and got more and more frequent until the
service was shut down entirely.
The bottom line is the position of Dish over that free upgrade that cost $49: "We send out contractors to do that work in the field. They wear our uniform and represent our company and drive our service trucks, but since they are independent contractors, we are not bound by anything they say. This technician misinformed you that it would be free, and you must pay."
The only word I can think of is dishonorable. A
company will not stand behind what it's representative says? Because they're subs? This
