DirecTV Inc Complaint - Cancelling DirecTV, god forbid you miss a payment
BAY AREA, CALIFORNIA -- I had DirectTV and moved, been meaning to have it switched over to the new abode, but haven't gotten around to it. I could go on and on about the crappy receivers we were given from the start, and that in order to receive a new receiver, they have to get the old one in the mail first, which takes MONTHS!!! And then you get the new one and now you have some new problem, like it's skipping, or not recording properly, or the fast forward isn't working, on and on and on. So anyway, back to moving. I moved and must have missed a payment and got charged the ridiculous cancellation fee, plus all kinds of other hidden charges it appears, because today found out my account was overdrafted--DirecTV took $746!!! out of my account without permission.
Called customer service, sat on hold forever just to have some cs agent say "Hmmm. That's strange. Can we give you a call back after I look into this?" So far no call back. To be honest, it's not surprising to me. Just 6 months ago I had to exhaust myself to get an issue resolved with 24 hour fitness. It took months. I realized they had been charging me the monthly fee despite the fact that I had cancelled 6 months prior. I wrote letters to headquarters--nothing. Finally wrote BBB and got a groveling email from someone at 24 hour fitness saying they'd give me a refund (even though they felt they didn't have to). I had to sign this release statement saying I wouldn't sue them to get the refund, and wouldn't you know it, I got an offer to join a class-action suit a month later, just after realizing they had the f'ing balls to bill me another monthly fee!!!! After all that!
I happened to notice once on one of my bank statements that Starbucks charged my card 2x for a coffee. I went back to them with the statement in hand, and they were nice enough to give me a refund. And then last month was scammed when I rented a car in New Orleans and charged $100 for this gas deal they make look like a savings when you initially rent the car, leaving out this clause about driving over 100 miles and you will be charged an extra $100. Total scam. But you know what? This is the country we live in now. These corporations have the money to hire lawyers to fight battles in which they know from the get go they're in the wrong.
The average person can only afford some cheap lawyer or pro-bono who can't compete with the corporate lawyer, and you end up losing anyway, and even more broke from all the charges of trying to fight something that is 100% the corporation's wrong-doing. I think Dateline did a special on it a year ago or so, called "the fleecing of America." I don't want to cancel DirecTV, I just want to get the hell out of America. It's just turned into a slimy sleazy breeding colony for corruption and greed. I just want to get the hell out of here. Cancel my way out of all these blood-sucking corporations and live in the mountains of Ecuador on just rice and electricity that runs on generators, ride a donkey into the town every now and then to buy fresh pesticide free produce and never have to deal with the hell our country has become. We're all slaves now. And no one realizes there's no such thing as freedom because you've all been brainwashed into thinking this is such a great place.
Ever heard of Plato's "Allegory of the Cave"? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allegory_of_the_cave) That's where we all are, hypnotized by shadows on the wall, not noticing the sun behind us and the way out of the cave...Wake up people! Look who our president is?
Property taxes, IRS, all of these corporations now requiring direct access into our bank accounts, gas prices--It's time to get the hell out of here.
