Verizon Complaint - Verizon Scammed Me - Now Wants Me To Pay
TAMPA, FLORIDA -- After researching for the lowest cost internet service provider, I determined that Verizon DSL was the one for me. I choose the plan advertised on VERIZON’s front webpage for DSL service for $14.99 a month for the 1st year (including a free $25 Target Gift Card!) and a free modem. (I printed out the ad, and I have it in my possession) Visit www.verizon.net to see the similar ad running now)
I tried to sign up online, but the website kept re-routing me to call a phone number to sign-up. (but the special for $14.99 was through the internet ONLY) I explained this to the woman on the phone, and she assured me that the price wouldn’t change, and that I could sign up over the phone. I also explained that even though the modem was free I didn’t need one because I had my own. At the time of installation, they gave us a modem anyway. (which is really a router, but they call it a modem.)
Then I got my bill. I was charged $33.99 a month PLUS $16.66 (for 3 installments) for the FREE modem that I didn’t want! (Never got the Target Gift Card)
I called the 1-800 number to discuss my bill. (I had to call while at work, because the billing department is ONLY open from 8am-5pm Mon-Fri) After being on hold for OVER 1.5 hours, I talk to 3 separate people. I am told the same thing over and over. Because I didn’t sign up online, I can’t get the $14.99 price. I try to explain that the website wouldn’t LET me sign up that day, and forced me to call in. When I ask to speak to a supervisor, I am put back on hold. After one hour I hang up.
The next day, I try going into a Verizon Store. (South Tampa Store, 714 S Dale Mabry Hwy)
The employee there is very nice, and looks up my bill. Says he doesn’t understand why the monthly fee is so high. He tries to manually override it, but can’t alter it.
He tells me to call the 1-800 number and wishes me luck.
I call Verizon Billing AGAIN. I explain my situation. By this time I realize that can get HIGH SPEED VERIZON VIOS for LESS THAN I’m paying for DSL. Because I am desperate and don’t want to pay $60 a month for DSL, as a compromise, I tell them to take me off DSL and I sign up for FIOS. It is agreed, and I am transferred again and speak to a representative who signs me up for FIOS and says someone will be out in about a week.
I am still being billed for DSL, I DON’T have FIOS, and now Verizon is threatening to send me to collections because I refuse to pay for the DSL SCAM.
I paid them for 2 months of DSL at over $55 per bill and that is 2 months too many! I only signed up to pay $14.99 a month, no more. THEY ARE ADVERTISING AN INTERNET ONLY PRICE, BUT YOU CAN’T SIGN UP ONLINE! IT IS A SCAM.
Now they are saying I owe them over $125.00 and they are sending me to collections!
