Comp USA Complaint - Closeout Sale of Defective Computers - Product Integrity - Close Outs

Product Integrity - Close Outs - Complaint
Review by bigdoga1 on 2007-08-30
REDMOND, WASHINGTON -- I purchased an Acer laptop from aCompUSA store that was closing out in April of this year and have had 2 complete failures of the DC/DVD drives; one was "repaired" and back in shop in 2 months. Others have same problem. I have a complaint to Acer about the integrity of the product which I am working but have just found out from two of your members that they believe CompUSA intentionally sells reject or low quality products thru their close-out stores. Therefore I have one complain on this site under Acer for the quality issue and now one for CompUSA and their deceitful practices and service.

My daughter also purchased a computer and did not get her mail in rebate (see other complaints on that one). bigdoga1

Basically you heard, and have no proof, that CompUSA sells defective products and you're complaining about it? Where is the proof?

Did you computer come in a sealed box? If it did, how did CompUSA supposedly know it was defective?

Your should be towards Acer but if they are fixing the drive under warranty then you have no one to blame other then the electronics. Electronics are not perfect and do fail from time to time.

Stop double posting the same story.

They are not going to give you a new laptop because you have a defective DVD drive.

I appreciate the input. I double posted because of two related complaints; CompUSA and Acer. You are right the proof comes from 2 of YOUR highly ranked members and one friend (employee of CompUSA) whose name I can't divulge. I fully expect people to do their own research but if enough stories pop up from your good members, I put some trust in them. Thank you.

Most laptop DVD drives are modular and can be removed without opening the laptop.

If all your problem is the DVD drive. Remove it and ship that back to Acer for repair/replacement.

You can get a USB external DVD drive for less than $100 at Circuit City, Bestbuy, etc.

No downtime...

Problem solved!

Well they're definitely not MY members, lol. And just because they are 'highly ranked' doesn't mean they know what's going on at CompUSA, it just means like you they have had a problem with a product and/or heard, like you, that CompUSA uses defective products.

Like I said, was the computer in a sealed box? If it was how do you know CompUSA knows it was defective?

I have a TomTom GPS unit I bought from Best Buy, the power port is failing on it, does that mean Best Buy sells defective products? No, it just means I got the short end of the stick, I'll send it in to the manufacturer to get it fixed.
