Washington Mutual Complaint - No such thing as customer service
CARSON, CALIFORNIA -- For the past few years, I've used Washington Mutuals on-line banking service. All was well until March of this year. I made the unforgivable mistake of transposing two digits in my mortgage payment ( the error was for ten dollars). Since I made the payment on-line as normal there was no need to go back and recheck my payment. Well, that was wrong!
Washington Mutual never contacted me of the shortage of funds. Instead, they held onto the funds until the next months payment was received. At that time they took the ten dollars and a $109.00 penalty. Still I was unaware of what was transpiring. This went on until the end of June, and I found out thru a credit report. To make a long story short, my attempts through "Customer Service" was not helpful. As a matter of fact, things were made worse by the bad information I was given to correct the problem. Oh, by the way, Washington Mutual said that they tried to reach me by phone (at my home) but did not leave a message. Tell me if I'm wrong? If I'm not at home when you call and you don't leave a message... How am I suppose to know that you called...
Anyway, my credit is now showing multiple late payments, which lowers my credit rating. Washington Mutual won't help or correct the reported late payments. According to one of their service reps: "It's your fault you're having credit problems".
If I could keep my low interest rate, I would take my mortgage business to another lending institution.
