Domestic Auto Experts, Katy Informative - No Comment
KATY, TEXAS 77449, TEXAS -- Filing a complain when a consumer is unhappy with the service is a very time consuming task. Since my time is precious, I reserve the comments to myself.

Riceeyes: That is expensive and you should have both replaced at the same time as they wear out about the same, at least from what i understand. Sure sounds like they charged you way too much for replacing just one.
Good information and i voted your review 'Very Helpful'.

Riceeyes: I am confused about your posting...In your posting you talk about the Lexus dealer. But when I follow the link at the bottom, it talks about a Ford Explorer. What kind of vehicle do you have? A lexus or a Ford Explorer? Even if I had no automotive knowledge, I could tell you that prices for a Lexus would be significantly different than prices for a Explorer. I mean, come on, how can you compare the two?
What kind of vehicle do you have? If you let me know a year and model, I can get you some pricing.

Goldenstang, Thank you for your comment. The car in question was an old 1991 Lexus ES-250. The control arm containing the ball joint was not, and does not need to be a dealer's part and you can find it a any auto parts store for only $ 50. What made this repair outrageously hight is that Domestic Auto Experts in Katy, Texas marks up the parts anywhere from 3 to 7 times their cost and in addition they charge labor at the rate of $ 110/hour ($ 109.99 to be exact).

Riceeyes, I called a dealer in your area (Northside Lexus) and got a quote from them. Their quote was $1078.15. I spoke to Pat. I did some checking with some local (to me) dealers and autoparts stores and found that with the exception of Advance Auto Parts, no other parts store can get the control arm with the ball joint. Advance can get it, but it costs $115.88 for the control arm and $31.33 for the ball joint. They do not come together from the aftermarket. The one from the dealer costs $232.68.
I know this may not be what you want to hear, but it appears that you did get a good deal. That particular year Lexus has a multi-link front suspension. When a ball joint is replaced on that type of vehicle, the control arm will also be replaced as well to insure that there are no additional problems. Since I do not see an alignment listed on your line items, that means that it was included with the labor to replace that control arm (most shops do it that way on suspension repairs because it is required). That is something to keep in mind as well. Hopefully, this information helped you out. Feel free to contact any dealers or autoparts stores in my area (KC,Missouri) to ask them or even contact that Lexus dealer in Houston that I called. Let me know if I can be of any more help to you. unknownnnnn at gmail.com
