Ashley Furniture Complaint - Buyer Beware - Furniture
SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA -- Like most of the posts on this board, I was initially lured in by Ashley's prices, but soured once the transaction was completed. We purchased a large framed mirror from Ashley and took it home ourselves (as opposed to waiting two weeks for delivery). Once it arrived home, we used the included wall hooks to hang the mirror in our dining room. The hooks were supplied with the mirror, and all of the other hardware was already installed on the back of the frame by Ashley.
Two hours later, the mirror came crashing to the floor of the dining room, destroying the frame, the glass, and part of the wall (it was a few hundred pounds). It fell because the hardware on the back of the mirror was woefully inadequate and had been installed with tiny screws. The hook on one side ripped out of the mirror entirely, and the one on the other side had started to actually tear in half!
NOTE THAT EVERYTHING WE INSTALLED OURSELVES WAS STILL INTACT AND UNDAMAGED. THE FAILURE WAS WITH THE PARTS INSTALLED BY ASHLEY.
When we called the store, we were smugly and condescendingly told that all items sold from the stores themselves (as opposed to those delivered) are sold "As-is" and carry no warranty whatsoever. This was not a discounted item, display model, etc, so we were shocked to hear that this company would enact such a policy.
A trip to the showroom was worthless as well, since the manager (Renee) would not even come out and talk to us. We waited for over an hour, asking several other employees for help on the matter. The response was that "she is a store manager, so she has other important matters to attend to". Seriously.
In the end, we were unable to get any help whatsoever from the store. The $600 mirror ended up in a dumpster less than a week after purchase, and it now appears that this is "business as usual" for Ashley.
Buyer Beware doesn't begin to cover it with these people. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs.
