American Airlines Informative - American Airlines Complaint regarding VOIDING a PAID reservation
DALLAS, TEXAS -- September 3, 2007 I had a reservation for myself and my mom to fly from Memphis to Dallas. I went to printout our boarding passes and my mom's ticket was canceled and voided. When I called the reservations department they told me I had to purchase another ticket. This was absurd and very costly for same day purchase. I told the lady I wanted to speak with her supervisor. Another lady got on the phone and told me the same story. She asked me questions about the flight and I told her honestly. We had a death in the family and my mom had to drive with my daughter to Memphis the day before our flight. I came on stand-by the next morning. The lady that had died had also worked for American Airlines for over 30 years. The supervisor told me that I was lying to her and that she just wanted me to tell her the truth. I again told her the facts. I was in shock at the nerve of this person. She said it was company policy and put a HOLD/FREEZE on the ticket. We went to the airport and the reservations desk said there were NO MANAGERS on duty that could lift the hold because it was a holiday. I have never been treated so rudely in my life. I then had to leave my mom in Memphis, she will never fly alone for fear of getting lost in the airport or going to the wrong gate.
My mom was crying and this caused us great distress. My daughter had to drive (4) four hours to Nashville to get my mom on another flight the next day. She had to take 3 small children on this 8 hour round trip which was a great danger for a young mother driving at night. My mom had to pay an additional fee $115 to fly back home along with the original ticket I had purchased. This is just not American...as in the United States of America. American Airlines has screwed me over monetarily not to mention the distress.
I have sent three e-mails to American Airlines Customer Service and received the same non-caring e-mails back all three times. They REFUSED to make any concessions to help with this issue. I WILL NEVER FLY AMERICAN AIRLINES AGAIN. EVEN IF I HAVE TO PAY $100 MORE PER FLIGHT. IT WILL BE WORTH THE MONEY TO GET BETTER SERVICE. I would rather drive to Memphis than ever fly American Airlines again. Furthermore, every person I have told this story has responded with the same comments. They do not like American Airlines and have agreed to NEVER fly with them again. I will continue getting the word out about American Airlines for as long as it takes to get their FULL ATTENTION.
Thank you for letting me post my comments on your site. I hope other people will read this review and NEVER FLY AMERICAN AIRLINES AGAIN.
