Home Depot Complaint - Deceptive Billing! - Carpet Installation
PHILLIPSBURG, NEW JERSEY -- Until I found this site, I thought I was alone. I went to the Home Depot store and was given a quote for carpet and installation. I accepted the quote and was given an invoice for $5,715.45, which I paid and have the receipt. I within a couple of days, I saw a commercial with the $99 installation. I took the invoice and receipt back to the store, which they graciously honored and did a change order, which resulted in a refund of $1,268.98. The carpet was installed to my satisfaction, since I had paid $4,446.47. I later find out that there is a law (supposedly) in NJ where they can only charge 90% of the total cost prior to completion of the work, so they send me a bill for $309.95 and that the total cost for the carpet is actually $4,756.47. It's been a while since I've taken a math class, but 10% of $4,756.47 is not $309.95. That's math that I can still do in my head! Now, I have a quote, invoice (and receipt), and change order, none of which state that this only represents 90% of the total cost. There is also not a group of numbers anywhere in the documentation that has $4,756.47 as a final cost. I won't even go into the disrespect that I have been given in trying to get this resolved.
I'll never step foot in another Home Depot and will go out of my way to discourage additional patronage!!
