Sears Informative - Warranty scam
LANSDALE, PENNSYLVANIA -- I purchased a Ge frontload washer because I was told it was top of the line. I also purchased a 5 year service contract. The washer broke 6 months after purchase took them 3 weeks to fix it. It then broke 7 weeks later, ther repairman comes out and tells me it will cost ME $2500 to fix it!? he then tells me because its the same problem we must be abusing the washer?? If putting laundry in the washer is abuse then I guess we are? I have 4 1/2 years left on the service contract havn't made a payment yet on the original purchase (12 months free financing) and now I have to pay for the repair or a new washer. what a joke. currently am trying to get them to realize most likely its a piece of crap washer that breaks easily! we will see if I need to get a lawyer involved or they will come to there senses. never again!
Update: thanks for everyone giving feedback, talked to sears management spent hrs on the phone..final judgment is we caused the washer to fail a 5 year warranty is void!!! in other words if any appliance needs a major repair it will be your fault and they will claim abuse so they don't have to make good on it!! I talked to the store manager he says in 15 years he has never seen abuse claimed on a washer. I looked at the handbook on the washer, nothing is said about what is a large load it says do not pack the washer tight. which in no way is what we were doing. we were putting normal loads of wash into the washer.
the washer cost $1500 so obviously the washer will need to replaced since the repairs are estimeated at $2500. Of course it is our fault the washer broke so warranty is null and void.???
Final update: Oct 9th they finally came to do repair after 5 weeks, sent 2 techs with boxes and boxes full of parts. Guess what the $2500 repair turned out to be a belt!!! Voiding my warranty, hrs spent on the phone, 5 weeks without a washer for a $20 part. Never again will I buy from Sears!
