DirecTV Inc Informative - Deceptive extension of contract
SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA -- I started having trouble with 1 receiver. I called DIRECTV. They couldn't get it fixed so they said they would send a new receiver and when I received it to put the old receiver in the box and send it back. OK, great! I get the new receiver and it does the same as the old one(come to find out it was electrical interference). I called DIRECTV. Couldn't fix. Then I get my bill. I was charged for the new receiver because they said they never received the old one. I had proof they did. They finally agreed they had received the old one and agreed to take off the charge. Then the girl I was speaking to just happened to mention that my contract had been extended by 1 year. I asked why and she said because I got new equipment. I also noticed on my bill that the new receiver is leased. My old equipment is owned. I asked why they had me send my old receiver in if I owned it and they replaced it with a leased one. Their new policy is that all equipment will be leased. I told her that I shouldn't have been billed for not returning a receiver that I owned AND if I owned it why did I have to return it. I asked them to send my old receiver back and they couldn't.
They finally agreed that the receiver they sent me would be owned not leased. As for the extended contract, they said once it is in the system they can't change it but they would put a note on it so if I want out after my original contract they will let me out. SURE!!!
