DirecTV Inc Compliment - Great new HD Channels!
I've seen a lot of complaints on here about DirecTV and their customer service (in fact, I've complained about them myself on here before) but since I often post a complaint when there is a problem, I thought it's only fair that I give them a compliment when they deserve it.
Two days ago, DirecTV launched their new HD service and I am impressed so far. They went from having about 8 HD channels to now having 31 HD channels (some are premium channels like HBO which I don't receive but I like that I have the options). The new channels look great and I really love the new Smithsonian HD channel and Science HD channel. This is the first phase of their HD rollout, by the end of Oct. there is supposed to be 70 HD channels and 100 channels by the end of 2007.
Some of the new channels look better than others, but I'm aware that it is up to the individual stations to supply the HD feed to DTV, which they just rebroadcast so it often depends on how the station shoots or transmits the signal (1080i, 720p or 1080p)and how my projector converts that signal, since I only have a 720p projector but all of the new channels look spectacular even at 110".
Also, they seem to have heard some of the complaints about the HD-DVR, they have updated the software so that you now go right to the guide with only one button push, instead of first going to a sub menu for sports, HD channels etc. That sub menu is still available by pushing the guide button again, which is a better way of going about it if you ask me, I hated having to push guide twice to see the all channel guide. They have also finally incorporated the auto jump back feature that Tivo has had forever, when fast forwarding through the commercials by the time you see the show and hit play, you used to have to then back it up to get to the beginning but now it automatically jumps back like 5 or 10 secs (depending on how fast you are fast forwarding)
Congrats DirecTV on making me a happy customer, I just hope I don't have to deal with their customer service again any time soon!
