Kingsway General Complaint - Cancelled Policy - Car Insurance

Review by epa1022 on 2007-10-02
My issue is with a car insurance company located in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada (Kingsway General). that after collecting over $10,000 for 1 years coverage, for two 10 year old minivans, cancelled my policy because they said I hadn't sent in a copy of the ownership of one of the vehicles, after never being late or missing a payment. Long story short, I think the reason they did it is because there was a claim pending from a truck, dropping salt on and damaging my wifes van. This happened back in December, and after a few weeks of getting the run-around, we put it on the back burner so that we could focus on other things. It was just recently that I talked to my broker who said I had a year from the incident to get the ball rolling.

I was told by the supervisor of the Underwriting Department that although they couldn't re-instate my policy, that I could re-apply, and that this type of cancellation would not affect my rating.

That loonies (think that't right) or dollars?
Either way that's a lot for 2 10yr old vehicles.
Do you have that bad a driving record or am I missing something?

I was involved in a bad accident in 2003, and my wife was hit by someone the end of 2005. I took my case to trial, and at the end the lawyer I had told me to take the deal they offered, although I didn't want to.....This year I spoke to a lawyer who actually trained the lawyer I had and said that he should not have had me do that. In my wife's situation, she was hit in the rear by a vehicle traveling East, as she crossed heading Southbound. I tried to get her to fight her charge, but she just wanted to get it over with.
I am not complaining about the rates, whether we agreed with the decision made, if we wanted to drive we had to pay it. It just seems as if these insurance companies collect, collect, collect, and as soon as you mention the "c" word, they find any reason to cancel your policy.

Let me get this straight. You are compalining because you had minimum liability coverage on your vehicles and you are complaining becaue teh comapny will not pay you for damage to your vehicle caused by a truck spilling salt on your wife's car. Right? Got news for ya, bubby. Liability, especially minimum liability does not cover damage done to your vehicle. Liability covers damage YOU do to other people or property. What you need to have if you expect your car to be repaired is Comprehensive and Collision, the insurance that covers your vehicle against damage, theft, fire, etc. You should do a little learning about what the different types of insurance cover. One time I had to testify in a court case where a guy ran into an ambulance. His insurance company had a check at the hospital the next morning to pay for the damages. He was suing the company becaue they refused to replace his car. He had minimum liability coverage. Guess what? He lost.

suesue, The video you refer to is a slickly produced character assassination piece that makes a lot of accusations, overlaying a psychologically disturbing scene of shark attacks. A less vicious dispassionate statement of the facts would be much more effective than this piece of propaganda.

Starlord-Though you mis-spelled a few words, sounds as if you're making a pretty penny working for the scamming a** insurance industry. And how do you know what coverage I had? And last but not least, the other truck caused damage to our vehicle, so you're telling me if the situaion was reversed, I would get away Scott-free.
