Dodge Informative - Lack of Customer Service
CONNECTICUT -- My 06 Dakota has 9000 babied miles on it. It is spotless and looks better than new. I recently had the left front brake caliper freeze up. I was on the way home and the motor felt like it was down on power. I pulled into my driveway and smoke poured from the left front wheel. The rotor was glowing red and this was in bright sunshine.
After it cooled a bit I jacked up the truck to take a look at what the problem was. I am a car nut and have been working on and restoring cars for years. The wheel was so tight that I could break the lug nuts loose with the tire off the ground. Long story short I have my truck towed into the dealer. They take it apart and find the caliper seals have melted because of the heat and the rotor is destroyed also. Of course the brake pads are shot as well. They repair it under warranty and then proceed to tell me that I owe them $225 for new brake pads. I said if the caliper
had not been defective there would have been no need to replace them. So if your defective part caused all the damage why do I pay? They said because brake pads are a "wear item" not covered.
Again I asked if the rt side rotor and pads are in perfect condition with no wear why am I paying for pads your defective part broke?
Same answer. So I said $225 for freaking brake pads that I can buy at Napa for $34? Oh thats parts and labor. I said the brakes are already apart because of the defect and you want to charge me for it? Now they have an attitude about it. So I said bill Chrysler and grabbed my keys and walked out the door. They came after me saying they will not release my truck until I pay. So I said what are you going to do? Call the cops and tell them I took my own truck? Good luck.
I fired up the truck and left. Now I get it home and my spotless truck has grime all over the seats door and steering wheel. Plus all over the hood chrome bumper and wheels.
The sad thing is I had to re-bleed the brakes to fix a soft pedal and re-machine the rt rotor they machined for some reason(it was perfect when brought in). Because the Dealer wanted to make a couple hundred bucks they lost a customer, and Dodge lost a customer, And I'll make sure no anyone and everyone I can knows not to buy a Chrysler product. Now I know why M_B dumped them and ran. But American? Not anymore, Hello Toyota.
