Social Security Administration Informative - Helping someone with their SSA claims process
SCRANTON, PENNSYLVANIA -- Recently someone asked me to help them with their claim at the local SSA office Department of Determination Services as they had a backlog of over 3000 cases. I contacted some people I knew about this situation and within 2 days his claim was expedited and he had a claims adjustor working on his case. He is now going through the claims process and should have a final determination on his claim by the end of the year. The new commissioner of the SSA, Michael Astrue is committed to reducing the wait time for claims to be either approved or rejected as well as to reducing the backlog of cases in the appeals process. He initiated a pilot program in the Boston region that was most successful and he is now rolling it out nationwide.
