Al's Westward Ho Motel Complaint - Worst Place Ever - Hotel

Review by TravelGirl on 2007-10-05
WEST YELLOWSTONE, MONTANTA -- In the 36 years that I have been traveling and staying at many accommodations, Al's Westward Ho Motel was one of my most disappointing encounters. First of all, it was extremely difficult to make a reservation. It took me approximately eight calls over two days before I could get someone to answer the telephone. I had the same difficulties when I wanted to change my reservation. I finally gave up and left two separate voice mails on the motel's answering machine. When I got to the Motel at 8:00p.m. on the 12th, I was told I had NO RESERVATION. The woman at the desk told me that my voicemail got cut off halfway through the first message and that she never received a second message so she simply cancelled my reservations. Furthermore, this woman at the desk (who seemed to be one of the owners.) scolded me like a five year old and told me I should never have left a phone machine message. She commented that she ran a business, that I should have known better, and should have spoken with someone in person.

Her attitude was condescending, belittling, and rude. She offered no help in finding another place to stay. She seemed to take delight in stranding two 61 year-old women at 8:00p.m.

OK, first of all, this is a "Ho Motel"? It sounds terrible to start with. THEN, you left a message expecting a reservation? I hope you learned a lesson from this.

I have to agree with beanbag, if you called 8 times over two days, that should have been your first clue.

You should find out if this is a common practice of theirs. Sounds like they are the ones who can't run a business. If she was able to cancel your reservation with just a half of message, then she obviously had your full name, which when she looked it up to cancel it, she could have called you and confirmed with you since only half the message came through. I'd like to know what other choice they expected you to make. I feel you've done what you could...and I feel the Motel was at fault here.

I'm afraid that when it took so long originally to make a reservation--I would have written them off and gone elsewhere. That being said, I agree with DB that the motel was entirely at fault. Sounds like they don't answer the phone on a regular basis and they won't accept a voice mail. What kind of business is this? Apparently they haven't heard of the new electronic age. That lady doesn't know the first thing about running a business. I hope your future travels are much better.

TravelGirl, I think because it's in West Yellowstone national park they most likely think they can do what ever they want because they have so much business they don't think they have to be nice. I thank you for the information and I will not be using them when I go to Yellowstone.
