Choice Hotels Informative - Rodeway Inn Logan Airport : Hell's Hotel
REVERE, MASSACHUSETTS -- Our stay at the Logan Airport Rodeway Inn (Revere, MA) was by far the worst I have personally experienced in my life. Since my experience includes roadside motels in the Southwest in the '50's and '60's, hotels in Paris, other parts of France, and Italy, with and without reservations, this is no small accomplishment! I have never been treated so badly by customer service staff on any other occasion that I can remember. There are not enough bad things I can say about this hotel and its staff without resort to unacceptable language.
My wife made the reservations at the Rodeway Inn Logan International Airport for a 2-day stay starting August 8. She chose this hotel not only because of the moderate rate, but because she called the hotel and was GUARANTEED that the hotel van would pick us up if we arrived after midnight, which was likely because of our flight times.
When we arrived at Logan and called the hotel at 12:05 am, my wife was told in an extremely rude manner that no van was coming, and to get a cab!
When we arrived in our cab, the serious abuse began. The demon-possessed monster at the desk invited us to walk half a mile---down a dark, unfamiliar street in a violence-prone city in a state of physical exhaustion with luggage---to a convenience store if we needed cash. He demanded that we pay in advance for the entire stay, and insisted that if we chose to go elsewhere---which we were in no position to do at the time---we would be charged for the entire stay regardless.
The room was at least somewhat above bivouac status. The air conditioner grill was partly melted, the bathroom fixtures would have to be rated "makeshift", and the "mattress" was actually two substandard box springs stacked on the bed. There was an unidentifiable goo on the tops of the nightstands.
The next day, when we needed transportation to pick up our rental car, we found out what the "free airport transportation" really was. When the only driver for the hotel van finally condescended to speak to us, we learned that the van ran TWICE A DAY, at 9 and 11 am. Contrary to the manager's response to our later complaint, the driver had no intention of being on call for making trips after noon! Hotel personnel lied to us about airport pickup---actually misrepresented the services offered in order to secure our reservation.
When I complained to Choice Hotels, the parent company, they disallowed any responsibility for the actions of the hotel staff, insisting that the local staff and management are "independent contractors". They eventually offered us 50 "funny bucks" to use for our "next stay", which is of course completely worthless. Our "next stay" in any member of the Choice Hotels chains will happen sometime after this place freezes over.
