Disneyland (California) Complaint - Gay Day

Complaint
Review by ikazuchi on 2007-10-08
In a place where there are thousands of children and teenagers, Disney should better enforce dress codes on offensive t-shirt phrases/images. October 6 was Anaheim's Gay Day, in which bright red shirts were worn to show gay spirit. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with that, but when they start wearing shirts that displays:

- "I WANT YOU, TO BEND OVER"
- "MY WIENER IS BIGGER IN JAPAN"
- "WAITING FOR MY PRINCE CHARMING" with a cum stain drawing
- "UNWRAP ME"

...and several other offensive shirts mentioned to me which I did not catch a glimpse at.

I don't care who wears them, gay or straight, these shirts should be banned from he park! These were obviously sexually explicit to adults, teenagers, and especially children worn by Adults themselves, who should have known better! Unfortunately, Disneyland officials did nothing about it. I hope Disney will enforce their dress codes!

Dress codes at Disneyland?
That's NUTS!

While I agree that people can wear whatever they want in public places, they shouldnt be wearing shirts that displays offensive or obscene language.

I agree with MRM...

I've seen offensive T-shirts worn by straight people as well...Even if they don't have any class, can't they at least fake it while in public?

Agree DB & MRM--I've seen many that caught my attention--and I'm not a prude. When I lived in HK, the Chinese people would buy shirts off the vendors that said very inappropriate things in English. They didn't have a clue (or maybe some did). In this case, it was just funny. Hope they never wore them to the US though. On the other hand, when someone gets a tatoo with Chinese letters in the US, I always wonder if it really says what they think!

Totally agree with the poster. Regardless of orientation, wearing sexually explicate slogans to Disneyland is tacky, among other things. I wouldn't exactly call it a dress code, and wouldn't disagree with any theme park, including Disney properties, to deny entrance to their parks to those who can't seem to figure out these family parks tend to have a lot of kids in them. Of course, I'm still trying to figure out what was suppose to be gained by making sure Gay Day was purposely celebrated at a park primarily designed for small children.

I too agree it is very inappropriate...

I agree not very appropriate. It's the liberal Republik of Kalifornia.

Disney Land/World does have a dress code. It is posted on all parks entrances. You should complain to a staff manager in the park. They would ask them to change or escort them off properties.

Disney World Guest Appearance Guidelines:

Disney World reserves the right to exclude visitors to their gated attractions who wear clothing that could create a distraction. This policy is in effect at the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney MGM Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon, Pleasure Island and Disney Quest.

Examples of unacceptable attire includes:

~Clothing displaying offensive messages/language

~Adult costumes or clothing that can be viewed as a costume (children under age 10 are excluded)

~Clothing made with offensive material, (ie transparent)

~Clothing that is excessively torn

~Clothing which exposes inappropriate portions of the body such as string bikini tops, G-strings, bikini bottoms, etc.

~Guests wearing wedding attire are discouraged from entering the Theme Parks

All Disney Theme Park guests are required to wear shirts and shoes at all times. Swimsuit tops are allowed when worn with other appropriate clothing.

Disney's Pleasure Island, Disney Quest, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon have other criteria in place which may vary from the general appearance guidelines. Depending on the venue and event, variations may be acceptable.

Thanks HJB--I had said basically the same thing--so I deleted. Too bad some of the people participating in this event didn't possess good, common sense.

Back in August (vacationing in Orlando), I was having dinner with my family in Fulton’s crab house (a Downtown Disney restaurant owned by Disney). The two females sitting behind us were cursing up a storm. My wife complains to our waiter and the manager came and asks them to leave. Our meals was also comp’.d ($150+).

HJB--Now, that's good service. I'm often in line at stores, with kids all around, and there will be that one person talking loudly on their cell phone--cursing with no abandon because that is their normal way of speaking. Unfortunately, there is no one to complain to and I'm sure if I intervened, I'd be given a dose of the substandard language anyway. Glad you were rewarded well for doing the right thing.

Did the shirt that said "I want to bend you over" have a picture of Stew talking to Pirate?

Anybody ever bought a T-shirt and didn't realize it was 'risque' until later?
Normally, I don't wear T-shirts with sexual phrases or meanings or anything of that nature, but I recently bought a shirt that had what looked like a cool retro-surf kind of design (I don't surf; I just liked the retro feel of it).
I didn't pay attention to the word-age.
It said in HUGE letters: MAJOR WOODY

Didn't know it until I wore it the first time.
I really need to pay more attention.

I wonder what Hugh_Jorgens take is on this.
Posted by Anonymous on 2007-10-09:
Stew, share with the group.
Posted by Anonymous on 2007-10-09:
Well, Obviously the NIC Hugh_Jorgen has a sexual connotation which offends me greatly because I don't have a 'Hugh_Jorgen' of my own. I want a world where nobody is ever offended and we all share the same sensibilities - MINE.
Posted by shawnp80 on 2007-10-09:
Everytime I make a funny about Stew he pouts and ignores me.

heaven17--lol. Proves that honest mistakes can be made!

Well at least no one reported a couple of them getting married! Live and let live but protect our childern from things they do not need to see at young ages.

Amen to that, Superbowl.

Yep.

While I have no problem with gay people, I DO NOT condone these types of attire at a family-friendly place like this at Disneyland. Walt Disney would NEVER let people with offensive attire in Disneyland, but Disney will take money from everyone.

I do agree that it is horrible to see inappropriate sayings on Tshirts, however I have seen many other things as well. What about the women (young and old) that have their boobs almost fully exposed or butt cheeks hanging out of shorts or skirts. The problem is where to draw the line. I was literally appalled at the amount of breasts I saw ready to pop out at any second. So if the ppl that wear crude sayings on shirts are to get reprimanded I would like it if they said something to cover nipples and butt cheeks.

They do have a dress code at both parks. Just notify an employee of it. I was present when a security officer told two guys that they could either buy a shirt and change or they must leave the park and return with a less offensive shirt. They will do the same thing with women wearing bikini tops.
