Roberto's of Elmhurst Informative - Mediocre Food at a High Price

Review by Chuck1 on 2007-10-09
ELMHURST, ILLINOIS -- Tonight (10/9/07) my wife and I had the misfortune to dine at Roberto's restaurant on Spring Road in Elmhurst, Illinois.

I ordered the Veal Marsala at $24, which was relatively tasteless. My wife ordered the Chilean Sea Bass at $32. Actually the fish was pretty good, but the risotto and the cooked spinach that came with the fish were dreadful.

Given the high prices charged by Roberto's and the many excellent restaurants in the vicinity, I would highly recommend that you not waste your time and money going to Roberto's.

This has nothing to do with this specific restaurant, but it's just an FYI. A local TV station in my area did an expose a couple of months ago about several popular local restaurants and their "veal marsala". Apparently, it's quite common to substitute a much cheaper pork cutlet for the veal - apparently, most folks can't tell the difference.

Hugh, are you serious?!!!
Thanks Chuck, it's such a downer when you go to a high end restaurant and get "cheap tasting food!!"

Thanks for the review Chuck, I won't be wasting my money there.

Hugh, is this a common thing all over?

Hugh, Buca's Italian Restaurant tried this with me. Being married to an Italian for many years I can tell the difference after eating a few million Italian meals. I told the waitress to take it back and I would just have the salad as I know better than to eat anything being returned from the kitchen. Manager came over and started an argument about it, told him three others (all Italian) in our group confirmed it was pork and not veal. He said he was sorry and offered free deserts. Told him to keep his free deserts and stop screwing people, that was all we wanted. Don't know if he is still screwing people over the veal/pork because we have never gone back. We spend lots of $$ every year eating out but never at that restaurant again.
