Graceful Moves Dance Informative - Poor Business Practices

Review by 1whoknows on 2007-10-12
SHELBY TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN -- Graceful Moves should probably be renamed Disgraceful Moves. This is a new company that is run very unprofessionally. The ownership is very rude and uses very questionable business ethics. In addition, the owner and lead instructor does not teach she stands in the classes and barks instruction. Possibly because of here physical stature she can no longer provide good demonstration of proper technique. More than a few customers have experienced the same issues.

This said, they probably need to make serious changes if they are to stay in business long.

Normally a dance studio let customers observe their classes before signing up for dance lesson. If I observed what you said, I will never signup for any dance class.

I happen to have worked for a dance studio when I was young, and earned my ballroom classes for teaching teenage fad dances. I don't know where you learned to teach people how to dance, but you do not teach by dancing all the time. You only dance with a student to correct something they are doing wrong. Normally, you move about the room or stand in one spot, watching the students dance. Doing this, you can see much more than you would if you were constantly dancing with students. As this does not constitute poor business practices, do you have information on their bookkeeping, or billing and accounting practices? Let's keep a distinction between poor business practices and teaching style. And you are wrong on the style question. It burns me when someone who has no idea what they are talking about accuse professionals of doing wrong. Your signature should be 1who doesn'tknowsquat.

There business practices are unethical (billing, scheduling ..... The instruction has been witnessed. Instructors do not need to dance all the time, but eating during classes????

I am sorry that you feel this way about this establishment. I- on the other hand - could not be happier with Graceful Moves. My daughter LOVES Grace Anne, who, by the way, I am sure that you were talking about in your review, teaches her class. My daughter starts counting down the days to her next class the minute we walk out the class room doors. The teachers are very patient with the children and very knowlegable in dance. As a matter of fact, I have just moved into a new house and Grace Anne was more than happy to work with me with make up days since we were not able to make our scheduled dance date. I HIGHLY recommend this dance studio and am very sorry that you had such a bad experience.

I was shocked to see a a negative review of Graceful Moves! This studio is on par with everything I consider best pratice of dance instruction! I have personally danced for 20+years. My daughter danced at this studio for the first time this year, and loved her teacher! Each week, my daughter excited the classroom with confidence, and a better knowledge of dance than the week before. Miss Grace-Anne is amazing! Viewing classes only enforced my daughter's excitement. Also, this year's recital was an extreme success! Very well organized! My friends, family, and those around me commented nothing but positive! Give this studio a try, you won't be disappointed!

Okay miss.1whoknows nothing. I happen to be a student at graceful moves dance studio and love it! I used to take from another studio. not saying anything disrespectful about that studio.I just much prefer Graceful Moves. I have improved as a dancer and if you believe that Miss. Grace-Ann is a "barking, cheating no good person who does nothing but eat in front of her students" you are sadly mistaken and EXTREMELY confused.the only reason Miss Grace-Ann ate in front of her student ONCE is because she works two jobs and unlike YOU, she has a life!!!! and has no time to eat and she's getting married to a wonderful person who is by her side at every step in her life. unlike you , she will have a GREAT life, and family.

By the wayy..... how's beautician job going. from one who REALLY knows.

Hey, Chuck! When moving this response, they deleted our brilliant(?) comments! Sounds like a cat fight to me. Think I'll go check it out--it's in my neck of the woods. :)

The staff was rude to me. A staff person questioned me because they did not believe me when I said I changed my shoes to clean gym shoes inside the building.

I'm sorry to whomever had a bad experience at Graceful Moves Dance, but I personally love it there. Everyone there is like family to me. The teachers really care about the students not just in their dancing, but in their lives, too. I highly, highly recommend this studio!
