Richter's Chimney Service Compliment - Good service & quality work
SCHAUMBURG, ILLINOIS -- We had been having chimney problems on and off for the last year. Whenever we'd get big storms, water would leak in around our chimney and start to come down into the house.
We had our roof guy check out the flashing and he couldn't find any problems, and suggested we have a mason come out to fix up the chimney, since it was aged and cracked all over.
We called Richter's just by finding them in the Yahoo Yellowpages I think, or Google... can't remember.
Anyway, the owner (Joe) came out and gave us a reasonable estimate for a tuck-pointing job that would involve replacing about 20 bricks and doing some caulking, etc.
We finally got a few good days of weather and had him and his team come out. He brought 3 guys, one a licensed union mason guy who was awesome, and team lead and a runner guy. While they started working on the chimney, Joe took me around my roof and showed me other areas he thought I should fix up... He was recommending I just use some caulk here or there... or call my roofer for this or that... never did he try and upsell his services.
Before he left the job in the hands of his team, he talked to the guys and they all decided it would be best if they re-surfaced the entire top of my chimney to really help keep the water out. I was wondering how much that was going to cost... and he told me to just run to Home Depot and pick up the stuff ($20) and his guys would do the job once they got done with the tuck-pointing... free of charge!
I picked up the stuff to re-surface the top of the chimney, and they worked all day tuck-pointing and replacing bricks. They ended up replacing over 50 bricks instead of just 20... and then the mason guy did an awesome job re-surfacing the top so it looked brand new! The original estimate just called for re-caulking the cracks, etc... But they basically gave me a whole new top for $20 extra. Awesome.
All throughout the day the crew lead guy would call me up to check out their progress... which was great since I wanted to learn what they were doing and see how things were going... they were very friendly and helpful and wanted me up there to see how it was going throughout the day.
At the end of the day the chimney looked great... So the next day I get a call... guess who... Joe. He said they were all talking over breakfast that morning before heading out to another job and they had one more suggesting for me to super-water proof my chimney... They told me to go buy some Dry-lock and just paint it over the newly re-surfaced top (after giving it 2-3 weeks to dry thoroughly). These guys had already gone above and beyond when they were here, and now they are calling to give more advice.
Rock solid guys and rock solid service. I would recommend them to anyone.
