Nona Mia Compliment - NONA MIA ITALIAN KITCHEN

Review by 23169 on 2007-10-15
ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA -- NONA MIA ITALIAN KITCHEN
This is Italian food at it’s best in America, too me.

NONA MIA – Italian KitchenHomemade Italian-American Soul Food 807A Patton Avenue Asheville, NC 28806(828) 505-2028 Fax (828) 505-2031 www.peterthomasevents.com

If you are in the Asheville, NC area or passing through and you like Italian food - American Soul food I would recommend you stop by NONA MIA, in fact I would recommend you go out of your way to stop by.

This place is in a small building just off 26 Highway so it’s not hard to find. The service is great and the prices are very reasonable.

The inside is small with just about 10 or so tables and outside has a couple of tables but this just goes to show you looks can be very deceptive. One might think because it’s so small that it can’t be that good, WRONG! This is the best Italian food I have ever eaten in the USA, bar none.

I have eaten at some up-scale Italian restaurants all around the US with the fancy trapping, you know it looks like they spent all the money to make the building look like Italy and then the food is mediocre at best.

From the time I walked in I felt like I was at home, very comfortable. It’s like a come as you are type place no pretences and the staff is excellent.

The best part though and the biggest surprise is the food and after all that is the main reason for eating out?

They have all kinds of choices on the menu including Fried Zucchini, salads, sandwiches, all kinds of tossed pasta, and Italian specialties like manicotti, chicken piccata: Sautéed boneless chicken breast with fresh lemon, capers, garlic, white wine, and Italian parsley, served with farmer’s market vegetables. Uuuummmmmm!

I had the special Farfalle Buona Sera: Shrimp, mushrooms, and sun dried tomatoes in a spicy pink cream sauce with Vodka in it, OMG was it good! No watered down noodles here and the portion was perfect.

They also do the Pie & Calzone too and next time I am going to try one. While sitting eating my food I was watching what everyone else was getting of course and I saw one of the pies (Mama Nona’s Sicilian pan-style pizza’s) and it was huge. I think it would feed four people or two very hungry people. I would have to take some home myself, speaking of which, they also do catering as well and the catering menu has everything with very reasonable prices as well.

I could go on and on about the food but I am just getting hungry thinking about it.

Fried Ravioli filled with ricotta cheese, lightly breaded…..

Insalata Campagna: Field greens tossed with walnuts, cranberries, Roma tomatoes, and crumbled Gorgonzola cheese, served with homemade balsamic vinaigrette.

There are many others too and all good! I give Nona Mia 5 stars for GREAT food and great service.

With food this good they will need a bigger building before to long.

'With food this good they will need a bigger building before to long.' Hope they don't do it. I've seen too many places go down hill once they started expanding. Seems they put their money into expansion rather than quality food.

Very good and descriptive review. Thanks.
