All American Fitness Complaint - Cancelling a Gym Membership with All American - Gym Membership

Complaint
Review by hopeful223 on 2007-10-20
BROKEN ARROW, OKLAHOMA -- Let me start with; No I didn't read the contract when I signed it. I know that I will get jumped on for that, but I wish people would be honest and admit that NO ONE (except maybe a lawyer) reads everything they sign. I didn't read all the fine print because I honestly thought that I was dealing with a good company and forthright salesperson. She seemed to be open about everything. However, I wasn't told about the cancellation policy. I have recently moved only 12.4 miles away, only half of the 25 miles required by the contract. However, it would take me 30 - 45 minutes to arrive at the gym, after working out for even an hour and driving home that is 2.5 hours out of my day. I have a full time job as a special education teacher and I have a family, I cannot take this kind of time out of my day even once a week. I explained that I would be more than happy to pay a cancellation fee, this is unacceptable to them.

I am now waiting on them to produce the contract that I signed, they cannot, or have not yet produced a copy of it. If they can produce it I will pay, because it is my legal responsibility, but it's also my right to inform everyone I can that All American is not to be trusted and that if a person does want to join a gym, it is much better to be on a month to month basis than it is to sign a contract.

In reading this letter, I got as far as '...I wish people would be honest and admit that NO ONE (except maybe a lawyer) reads everything they sign....' Seeing that the sub-title deals with cancellation, I will ass/u/me they won't allow a cancellation without a termination fee.

I am NOT a lawyer, but before I sign anything I read it all. I don't care how annoyed the person waiting for my signature may become--I read it first.

Again, I ass/u/me you signed a contract of some sort--read it.

"No I didn't read the contract when I signed it." That will do it everytime.

How does it take you 30-45 minutes to drive 12.4 miles? I work over 37 miles away, and it takes me half an hour?

I read everything I sign, especially something as important as a contract.
