Car-Hire-UK Complaint - Will I Ever See my Deposit Again?

LONDON UK -- Before hiring a car from Car-Hire-UK I rang them to ask when they would block the 420 (GBP) deposit on my credit card. They said "Within 24 hours of hire". In fact they took it at the point of booking, 9 weeks ahead. I complained and after a few ignored emails I got my deposit back. Fair enough. I hired the car on 29 Sept 07 and returned it in perfect condition, with a full tank of fuel on 8 Oct. By 15th Oct my deposit still had not been returned. I rang 5 times during office hours but failed to get a response. Finally, 6th time I got a response and was told refund had been made and would appear on my card in a day or two. By 23rd Oct it still had not been refunded. In the interim I sent 5 emails and a fax. No reply. I rang 23rd Oct to be told it had been done on 22nd! They promised to send an immediate email to that effect. They didn't.

And today, 24th, still no money. By bankers told me to inform my credit card company. They said its most unusual for a car rental company to actually take the cash, they usually just block it as a precaution. Car-Hire-UK claim to have been in business 50 years, but BVLRA do not have their name as a member. Will I see my 420 (GBP) again? Yes, if not by a refund it will be through the Bromley County Court. Avoid this company.

Now I use Car Hire 3000 for UK hire. Cheap, excellent service, no deposit problems.
