FCC Informative - F.C.C. to end sole cable contracts for apartments

Review by 32031 on 2007-10-29
This Wednesday the Federal Communications Commission is expected to vote a change to the rules which will forbid sole source for cable (internet & TV) in apartment buildings. This is good news for those who have complained about horrid service from some cable providers and not having a way to obtain service from a competitor.

Unfortunately the ruling will not apply to condos or planned developments.

What about the areas where only one cable company controls the area...we have about 4 different cable companies but we can not choose which one we want...we have to take what service is in that area. People living one street over from me has to have one cable company and we have to have another...luckily, I'm living on the side with the better cable company.

DB, the ruling applies to apartments only. Just because a renter will now be able to choose a provider doesn't mean they will get the service. Wiring up a building is expensive.

Sorry for not being more active here lately, lots of other pressing matters going on. But I expect to be hanging out here more often very soon.
