CVS Informative - Store Safety And You
AURORA, ILLINOIS -- On 10-29-07 I was in the CVS store in Aurora IL and they had the front center isle in front of the registers blocked with two double sided rows of totes (one side stacked two high, they other side stacked four high) blocking the main walking path in the store. Unfortunately my husband who recently suffered a stroke( and well on his way to recovery) was injured by the totes! After hearing the loud bang his knee was a bloody mess. I called out to the cashier and she was the worse! She was rude and unconcerned. She said no one had ever hurt themselves before on the stacked totes and that they kept them in the isle all the time and at all of their stores. I advised her they created a hazardous situation in having them their in the first place. It was never our intent to come in their store and leave with a bloody knee! She called the manager who approached with the same attitude. I demanded some gauze and bandaids so I could clean his knee. The manager felt that she would correct the problem by stacking the totes all together in a single row making them now 6ft high. I was amazed that she couldn't see that she now created an even more hazardous situation that could severely injure a child.
Totes are not made to be stacked like that. Stop being lazy and empty the totes instead of slapping a sign on the now 6ft high totes and selling the candy inside. She explained she was short staffed and didn't know where else to put them. I called their corporate office and after the woman expressed her apology she stated that the store bares no responsibility in the safety of the consumer and there fore they will not and do not pay any medical bills unless they have been reviewed and approved by CVS. I couldn't believe my ears!! First of all I called them to complain about the rude cashier and manager as well as the unsafe environment they created.
I took pictures and video with my cell phone to prove that fact. She agreed it was a hazard situation and would have to research further, and still referred to the statement she mentioned before. I know the world can sometimes be "sue happy" and that was not where I was going with the conversation at all so her assumption of me was wrong. It's apparent to me they do not care about the public safety and they will no longer get any more of my business, nor the business of any of my family, friends, business partners, business associates or co-workers.
