Commonwealth Edison Company Complaint - Shut-off notice assistance - Shut-off notice

Complaint
Review by cherokeestars on 2007-11-11
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS -- I would like to say that Com-Ed does not want to work with customers who show that they are trying to pay their bill, but are having financial difficult time, and we get a shut-off notice and go to Com-Ed for help and they tell you there is nothing that can be done, leaving children in winter with no lights or heat..

Sad that Com-Ed does not live up to their so called ComEdCares program...

On the back of your bill, do they show any services that offer assistance for help paying your bill??? Programs for low income families?

Our bill has a list of agencies on the back, that you can apply to for financial heating assistance.

Good luck.

cherokee, where I live it is not legal to turn power off during the winter months if there are senior citizens or children in the household. Call or go to your local state services agency right away and ask about applying for assistance. Good luck!

Call your state's public utility commission, they will know where you can get some help. Please don't take this the wrong way either, but could you or your spouse get a parttime job to pay the bill or maybe getting rid of the "extras" we all think we have to have and put that money towards your bill. I have BTDT on this stuff when I was younger. If you don't get ahold of it now, it will get worse.

Yeah, I thought it was illegal for them to shut off power during the winter months...

In CT they can.

winter months are typically defined as December 1 to March 31.

Cherokeestars, I went to their site and it seems all they care about is how to help you reduce your energy use, not helping anybody with their bill. I think Skye has given you some very useful advice and you should check it out. There are also churches and others that will help you out with this. Look in the yellow pages in your area. Also check the law's in your area to see if they can do this?

God bless you and your family.

this is for spiderman, my husband lost his job he has since gone back to work, we went to Liheap for help, the lady had trouble using the computer, and by the time is was over, we had just about no help, and we called them on it, we were "sorry there is nothing we can do" and yes we have done everything that we could think of for help. What we have is a temporary set-back and that is why it is hard to get help...
