Magnussen's Lexus of Fremont Informative - Charging customers to replace fluids that don't need to be changed

Review by lextech75 on 2007-11-13
FREMONT, CALIFORNIA -- I am a Lexus technician and Magnussens Lexus of Fremont is charging customers to change certain fluids on there Lexus vehicles that are a lifetime fluid meaning that Lexus says they will last the lifetime of the car or 100,000 miles for the coolant. On Lexus vehicles 2004 or newer they have long-life coolant not to be changed for 100,000 miles and W-S Fluid which is for the Transmission/differentials will last the lifetime of the car.

Magnussen's Lexus of Fremont is changing these fluids at 15k, 30k, 45k, 60k and so on. If you have been taken advantage of file a complaint to Lexus and demand action. This is wrong and this dealership is ripping people off. If you planned on taking your vehicle to Magnussen's Lexus of Fremont don't do it. Do not give them your business.

I take it that you used to be a technician at this dealership?

Maybe the fluid may last for 100,000 miles but I would still want to flush the radiator to get rid of rust deposits and other crud. It doesn't make sense to me to keep fluid in a car for that long.
What difference does it make how good the fluid is if it can't get through plugged up radiator openings?

The OP is correct when it comes to scheduled maintenance according to the schedule posted on the Lexus web pages. However, under certain conditions such as driving on dirt roads or in dusty conditions those fluids need to be inspected regularly. If the dealer is changing those fluids in advance of their expected lifespan without notifying the customer then I'd say the customer is being ripped off.

If this dealership is doing this to unsuspecting customers, I applaud you posting a warning.

Oh, I need to complete the story. When I asked Jimmy Wong about his comment, he didn't deny; but the person who denied was Bo Magnussen. I got reply from him and he was justifying the wrong doings of his sales people.

I was so surprised to see the rude and arrogant attitude of these 2 sales people; especially Jimmy Wong's real bad attitude; but now I am not. These guys knew that Bo Magnussen would support their wrong doings, so they could behave like this and even when they had a chance to say sorry, they didn't bother to say sorry.

Beware of this dealership. There are other Lexus dealerships. Do you have to go to this one?

Hi Mr. Magnussen,

I need to report a bad treatment I got from your 2 sales agents: Mainly Jimmy Wong and Fred Omar.

I was in your dealership today around 12.30 pm. to buy some parts like sunshade and some other stuff. I didn't know that your service department is closed on Sunday. I asked the lady in front and she told me that.

So on the way back I grabbed a cup of coffee and I was leaving the dealership; when I was leaving Jimmy Wong passed a comment to Fred Omar that "We have too many coke customers today". Fred Omar replied back saying that "We are cooking". I went to my car, kept coffee and came back and asked both of them their names.

I asked Mr. Wong "Do you think I am a coke customer? I came to buy some parts, but service is closed today, so I grabbed coffee on the way". I asked Mr. Omar, that why he also laughed at me? He said that he was just having fun with his buddy.

Now I have some questions for you:
1) Is Jimmy Wong paying for your coke and coffee supplies?
2) Now, after losing a loyal customer for 8 years (I got my car for servicing regularly to your dealership after I bought it from you); is Jimmy Wong going to pay the loss that caused to the dealership? Because, if someone is going to treat me like this, there is no way we can come for servicing and buying our next car there. So this potential loss of one and more customers, is Jimmy Wong going to pay your dealership for that?

Do let me know answers for these questions.
