Channel Islands Workout Sport Complaint - The Worst Personal Training And Customer Service

Review by jman on 2007-11-15
OXNARD -- Oh gosh, where do I start?

Heck, I have been a member of Channel Islands workout sport in Oxnard California. First off the customer service is horrible. Everything is broken and dirty. The staff reminds me of one of those TV shows. Just a bunch of teenagers, hanging out eating to go foods

now the in house personal trainers? They suck big time. There was 1 independent trainer there who was awesome!. All his clients bodies have changed dramatically. This guy was the spotlight and everyone knows him. This guy was a really cool guy, and people would interrupt him when he was training a client to ask a question. Well apparently, I heard from other members, that the in house trainers got jealous because they don't have clients, heck they don't even put in the time. They started spreading rumors, and wanted him out of there due to their own insecurities. They blamed him for their lack of success as a trainer. How pathetic. The independent trainer has now moved on and opened up his own personal training studio, which I have yet to locate. I was wanting to work with him come 2008.

There are only 3 other in house trainers who are just way out of shape, and don't even workout. They formed this team and 2 of them have zero clients. The other trainer has had a female client for the past 2 years. Well guess what? Her body has not changed a tad bit. She still looks the same as she did 2 years ago. What a waste of money. This same trainer even had the nerve to try and sell me personal training at $75 per hour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel bad for this lady who's just throwing her money away on a unfit, lousy jealous trainer.

Myself as well as others cant wait for the new 24hr fitness sport to open up right down the road. Channel islands workout sport is going down, once 24hr opens up. I'm sure at least they will have better customer service. I hope the lousy trainers don't venture to 24hr, because I will tell as many members as I can

I'd like to say I 100% disagree with "Jman". Channel Islands Workout Sport is one of the only gyms in Ventura County that I can actually go workout in and not have to worry about working out with a bunch of snobs and meat heads. The classes there are off the hook. The staff is extremely helpful except for one oriential lady who is the GM. She is the only rude one of the bunch and dresses very trashy. Other then that, the gym is awesome! I love it and find it to be a great environment and an awesome place to make results. It is a fairly small gym but it has everything you need. To me, the best part of the gym is the front desk. I workout in the mornings and when I go in feeling croggy, the guys working the front desk always find a way to change my attitude. To the "regulars" that stay consistant, the FD are like family. They actually talk to you and give you LEGIT smiles and conversations. They're not all scripted like the front desk at 24 hr or Golds gym. (Which I've been a member at both before) Go on into Channel Islands Workout in the morning and you'll see an older african american guy named Jue-Jue who is just the coolest guy you'll ever meet. He always serves coffee to members and is always possitive and friendly. There's also a young cat named Gilbert who is one of the most respectful youngsters you'll ever come across. He brightens the gym with his smile and gave me a great first impression of the gym when I signed up about a year and a half ago. There's also one of my old coaches that is a personal trainers named Ken. He was a former football player for the Dallas Cowboys. So there is no question that he is an awesome trainer. I can go on and on about how great Channel Islands Workout Sport is. To get a better idea, your best bet would to just go in yourself and check it out.

To just clean up the negative comment "Jman" left, all people are different. I am a 32 year old man with a great body thanks to CIWS. That gym has all I need and more with the suana and steam room. I make no excuses for myself to not workout. Jman, I'm guessing due to his comment, must be an older man in his late 40's who is just trying to find any little way to complain. He's probably an over-weight grump. God Bless him though.
One last comment..I've been to the new 24 hour fitness on victoria and I must say it is a perfect gym to go if you want to be waiting around to use a machine. It's overly packed with it's old members from the old gym that closed down.
