America Online Complaint - AOL doesn't care about their members - On-going harrassment

On-going harrassment - Complaint
Review by AlleyS on 2007-11-16
CONNECTICUT -- Recently, 3 specific AOL members have been constantly harassing myself and a following member, who happens to be a friend of mine. I have reported these 3 numerous times, in which ALL times they have broken a TOS rule, and nothing gets done about it. Finally, today, one of them suggested I go get aids and kill myself, so I forward this to AOL. Guess what they did. NOTHING! They mail me a review of their TOS rules, apparently the ones they do NOT enforce. And also, another member made a poster in which is enough reason to contact the police, but the member does not live in the same state as we do.

Today, I am planning on deleting my AOL screen name, as AOL doesn't seem to care on following their TOS rules at all.

when i was on aol, i had the same issues. i would get many many spam emails from other aol members, and they did not seem to ever be able to stop them. go figure....

the best part to all this, i one day said the f word in an adult chat room, and i was banned in minutes. when i confronted them over this, they said i had a tos violation. i once again questioned about the spam emails, and their response was, we do our best.

aol is nothing more than an over inflated instant message program. their propietary downloading crap was all i could stand. they do not tell you, but they do scan your compouter and upload information form your drives. oh they say it is all non personal, just trying to understand their customer base.

going to aol anonmyous was the best thing i have ever done. i have been aol free for 2 years now.

Alley that is awful. AOL should be ashamed of themselves for allowing a blatant violation of their TOS. Nobody should have to be harassed online or off. If I were you I would seek another internet provider.

Ahh, I remember trying to remove AOL software from a hand-me-down laptop I got. Used uninstall, from the control panel, following proper procedure. Wound up having the main disc drive directory corrupted and losing everything on it. May not have been AOL software at fault, but I think it was. BTW, MSN and Earthlink tend to be top-rated ISP's if you have dial-up.

CCleaner.com will clean up the mess AOL software makes on your PC. You unintall using the Windows/AOL remove, reboot then run CCleaner. I have had to do it a few times for different people and it always cleaned up the mess.

Yes it is Alley, CCleaner.com. Very simple to install and use. Email or IM me if you have a problem.

You know, I just downloaded CCleaner the other day. Has a good reputation online and seems to work really well.

What did you do to the people to upset them to the point that they harassed you?
Posted by yoke on 2007-11-25:
Alley, I know how you can be on this site. Maybe you did the same there.
Posted by yoke on 2007-12-17:
Alley, I agree with that, but we only have heard your side of the story.

People don't need a reason to harass someone online, it's a game to them and it ecalates cause AOL allows members to harass others. i've been harassed for years and AOL does nothing. the harassers have stolen my childrens pictures and posted them on vulgar fake profiles. they run backround checks and then try to sabotage our offfline life. they have been TOS'd many many times. i have had a police officer call in to AOl after witnessing the harassers only to be told AOL will remove them. it is al to no avail.
