Review by subchaser on 2007-11-22
BARTLETT, ILLINOIS -- To Nritish Petroleum
I am in pain with a hip removal Gas pumps say see the attendant at which point I must guess the amount of gas I will need,. Tried 2 different cards at 2 different pumps and the card was not read.Is this an attempt to force me into the station to buy some other product? I will no longer go to a station that say's the card cannot be read. I use a walker and need to pay at the pump instead of going into the station twice. Very simply, if you cannot read my card at the pump. but read it in the station,, I cannot buy your prodcut.

Did they force you to buy extra products when you walked into the station to pay?? No i didn't think so...

The card readers sometimes have "issues" in colder, wetter weather. I don't think this is an attempt to make you walk to the store to buy more, simply a equipment problem. There should be signs posted as to how to signal an attendent to assist you if you have physical difficulties. One warning; if there is only one person working, they will not be able to leave the store to assist you until other customers inside the store are taken care of, so this works best mid-day, when there are usually more attendants there.

ever considered it was YOUR card at fault?

By law, if you are unable to operate the pump (and I think this would qualify), they are required to send someone out to help you. There should be a statement to that effect right on the pump.

I've noticed quite a few gas stations in my area has a pump for "Handicap Only"...and the attendant comes right out to help as soon as someone pulls up to it. I'm sure they must have a buzzer or something as well..not sure. Other gas stations here has a pump for full service for anyone who doesn't want to pump their own gas whether handicapped or not. And I think that's a good option to have, for those who have small children in the car...we all know it's not a good idea to leave kids alone in a car even for the minute it may take to run inside a gas station to pay for gas.
