Hyatt Hotels Informative - Unsafe parking lot - Lack of Security

Lack of Security
Review by almead on 2007-11-27
MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN -- I stayed with my family at the Hyatt Regency, Milwaukee a week ago. Our car was broken into in the Hyatt ramp that is attached to the hotel and says Hyatt guest parking at the entrance. This happened during the daytime. The hotel denied any responsibility as they did not own the parking lot. The parking lot said that they too did not bear any responsibility for the incident. I was thus left with a bill for a broken car window and am still not sure about what other items were stolen from the car. I have stayed and parked numerous times ties in various hotels and always assumed that that the hotel was responsible for their parking especially considering that the parking rates are always fairly expensive.

I am not sure that there would be any redress possible in my case but I am posting this as a warning to people planning on traveling to Milwaukee to stay away from the Hyatt.

You are parking in the city, of course you take risk parking your car! Im sure somewhere, be it a sign at the entrance or on a parking ticket the following is stated in one way or another "car owners assume all risks of damage and theft to cars. Owner of the parking lot cannot be held responsible"

Unfortunately, you'll have to seek reimbursment from your auto or home insurance. It is extremely unusual to not see a sign as Ryan84 says. We had our car broken into and the police took a report and that was the end of it, the hotel was not responsible at all.

Definitely check with your home owner's insurance. My car was broken into a few years back... they covered me... after the deductible of course.

You assumed wrong. I've parked in that ramp hundreds of times and have never had a problem. You know why? Because I pay attention and read the signs that are posted all over the parking ramp stating that they are not responsible for theft or damage and to not leave anything of value in your car. You're completely at fault if anything got stolen from your car.
