Tree Classics Complaint - 9' artificial majestic balasam fir - Artificial christmas tree - majestic balsam fir

Artificial christmas tree - majestic balsam fir - Complaint
Review by ever on 2007-11-27
I ordered a artificial 9' majestic balsam fir from Tree Classics,Inc. I had checked the companies reviews and thought I had done my homework on this company who also advertises in many upscale magazines. I was wrong.

I found for my $1000.00 plus tree that I had purchased a tree that had obviously been returned to the company. There were no foot petals to turn on the tree. The tree trunk was mangled and the paint was removed. The needles looked fake, smelled of chemicals and fell from the tree on to the carpet. The plug connections were bent. On and on.

I tried to contact the company.
Message after message has been left with no response to either e-mail or phone.

I do not recommend this company to any one. Never again will I deal with an unknown company.

Don't give up. Keep contacting them until someone gets back with you. It sounds like you may have gotten a used tree by mistake.
We just got an 80.00 Target special this year and
are extremely happy with it. 79.95 and we got a 7' tree prelit with clear lights.

ouch, that hurts! Principissa has a good point. Target has a great selection of fake trees for cheap!

I agree with Prin. You might think about reversing the charge to your credit card... that'll get their attention.

On a side note, I am told by a friend in Maine that this year's crop of live trees has suffered greatly from the dry summer, and the trees are already dry when being cut. Hence, they are at a greatly increased fire risk.

I went with a nice artificial tree myself this year.

Unfortunately, these aren't the types of trees Target usually carries though. Christmas shops generally carry these high end trees but unless you have a truck, their size and weight can make ordering online and having it come to your door attractive. Buying something so expensive and visually important sight unseen can have obvious downsides as experienced here.

$1000 seems a little steep for a tree!!

The only complaint here should be about the education you obviously failed to receive, because no one who made it through grade school would be stupid enough to pay over $1000.00 for a tree.

I got a 6.5 fake tree at Target for $40.00. Sure it looks a little like Charlie Brown's Christmas tree, but my son refused to let me get a black Christmas Tree again this year. :( But with the large ornaments on it, one can hardly tell that it's really that bald. I just hope I don't have to return it, I don't have the receipt anymore, but I hope they'll exchange it for me if there is a problem! ;)

Gothic if they don't be sure and tell all your friends and family to tell their friends and families and co-workers not to shop there anymore.

Hello from Tree Classics,

(This is towards the original poster and all others who may read this.)

I vividly recall this specific order in 2007 because of the condition the tree arrived in. When UPS delivered this 9' tree to the customer it was severely damaged. Obviously we credited the customer 100% and also picked up the package at our cost, offered to replace it, and apologized for the heartache. We know that during the Christmas season nothing is more important to our customers than a smooth setup, delivery, and everything else expected of Tree Classics.

However, please realize that things unfortunately happen that are outside of our control. While I personally wish I could deliver our trees to your door without a scratch, the reality is sometimes UPS or FedEX has people who are less-than-caring with packages, (especially during the holidays where the shipping volume is enormous).

Regardless, I'm very sorry this happened and of course it looks bad on us as a company. In regards to the comment "I had purchased a tree that had obviously been returned to the company."

This would NEVER, EVER happen, period.

What most don't understand is that this particular 9' tree comes in 2 boxes. Each box easily weighs in at 80-90lbs. These cardboard boxes need to be reinforced with tape on the corners and all openings in-addition-to the taping applied right after we manufacture. The whole reason for doing it is to prevent the product from flying out of the box if the shipping company mishandles the item.

We all know that bad things happen from time to time, but the difference is how a company handles a problem, not just a simple sale. We're not here to scam you like the original post indicates. We have been in business for nearly 40 years, we have a 10 year warranty on our trees, a 30 day money-back guarantee, we ship for free, we have customer service 7 days a week, and believe me, we care.

To the original poster: (If you happen to read this, please call me direct at 847-304-4961. I'd be more than happy to speak with you. If you choose to give us another chance, I'd be willing to offer you a 20% discount off any purchase for the inconvenience.)

Thank you,

Thanks Alex....this review was written last year, so I don't know it the poster will see you comment...however, it's still nice to see the other side of the story...but with customer service 7 days a week, why didn't anyone return the calls that the poster said they repeatedly left and none of their Emails were ever answered?

Last year was a complete anomoly. We simply did not have the staff or a better phone system in place to handle the volume of business. (growing pains)

We changed all of that that this year. More phone lines coming into the building, a better MS Exchange server to handle and filter emails, and plenty of people to help with the volume.

There is nothing I hate more than bad customer service, (because I work in it), and it is my goal to make sure things like this never happen again.

Regards,

Alex
