Southwest Airlines Complaint - Bags Ruined by Fish Water!
Resolution Update on 12/23/2007:
Received a check from Southwest Airlines for the full purchase price of our replacement luggage. Yippee!
We flew from San Diego to Philadelphia in August, 2007. Our bags were wet when we got to Philly - discovered soon after leaving the airport that they were permeated by fish water - clothes and all. Called Southwest Baggage Services in Philly - were given a report number and were told to request a Passenger Property Loss Claim Form from Southwest. The representative never said that she wanted to have the luggage back for inspection. The luggage was ruined and had to be thrown out. We had to buy new luggage to get our clothing back to San Diego. The clothing inside the bags had to be washed twice to get the fish smell out. Three months and four letters to Southwest later, I still don't have my Passenger Property Claim Loss Form. Their most recent request - THREE MONTHS after the luggage was ruined was for me to return it to them in Texas, along with receipts for the original purchase of these bags. To me, this is an unreasonable request - do they really think that I would have hauled these stinky bags back across the country with me and left them sitting in my garage for 3 months??
We would have been more than happy to return them to their crew in Philadelphia, but we were never asked to do this. We are asking for roughly $200 - the cost of the new luggage that we had to purchase to get back home, and Southwest is refusing to accept their mistake and honor our request.
