MIDDLEBURY, CONNECTICUT -- I purchased a 1705 laptop for my grandson in August '06 for college. when he returned to college in Sept '07 his K/B had to be replaced and during the replacement the Dell representative said the battery wasn't holding a charge. Now the power adapter cord has split and will soon prevent power to the computer. when I called to report this to Dell they said both had only a 1 year warranty although I purchased an extended warranty in 2006. I am now forced to pay >$200 for a battery & cord.
If this is indicative of the reliability of Dell products I made a big mistake. In addition the runaround you get trying to get to someone who cares at Dell is unbelievable. At least my company has an Office of the President complaint center where this type of problem can be addressed.
