Osaka Sushi Compliment - Great Food and Service!

Review by GothicSmurf on 2007-12-16
NORTHHAMPTON, MASSACHUSETTS -- Saturday night I met a friend for dinner. Since I am fairly new at Sushi, I let him pick the place.

He suggested Osaka in Northampton, MA. We ordered the Sushi Platter for 2.

The food was TO DIE FOR, I have never had better or more fresh Sushi than what I had there. The eel was mouth watering, fresh and full of flavor. The wait staff was making sure we had plenty of drink and were always coming by to check how our meals was and if we needed anything.

The amount of food served was HUGE, we could have probably fed at least 3 of us comfortably with the amount for two. And the price for the platter, considering the amount was a great value!

Hands down this place was THE BEST for sushi, wait staff and atmosphere!

EDIT: I forgot to mention the great selection on the menu. There was everything from typical Asian cuisine to the more exotic. There was at least 8 pages. There was also a room where you could sit at the grill and watch the chef prepare it your food.

Obviously I really loved this place!

Great post and info, to bad were 3,000 miles away or we could try Osaka's out. I'm more the "I want it dead and cooked" kind of person but I have found some Sushi items that were pretty good.

I love sushi, but only when it's cooked

Sounds like a cool place with great service.

Bye the way, what does "eel" taste like? chicken?LOL

I'm a non-seafood type of guy,but lately I've been itching to give it another go.

Jenjenn, I was leary of sushi until I treied it not long ago, and if it were more affordable here, I would eat it more often. I was quite favorably impressed. Just be careful with the wasabi. LOL

I love the Wasabi, my date got some up his nasal passage (when I made him laugh). It was the funniest thing I had seen in a while. So of course I had to tell him the story about how I was getting ready and somehow got soap up my nose. (I have no idea how I did it either, but let me tell you, NOT FUN!)

Sushi is actually really good, but most people eat California Rolls (Which is sashimi in rice wrapped in seaweed). Sushi is rice with sashimi over it.

The eel, how do I describe it? It was very soft and mushy and the flavor was like nothing I've ever had before.

I find that when I eat Sushi, the best way for me to eat it is chew the rice and let the fish slide down. I find that dipping it in soy sauce mixed with Wasabi (by dipping it) really tricks my brain into being able to handle it.

For some reason, I love the taste of sushi, but my mouth doesn't always like the texture.

If you've never had sushi, I really suggest trying it. I'd start with the Yellow Tail or Tuna. They also have (cooked) egg and bean curd which are very good, but a little different. There is also salmon which isn't my favorite, but if you like it, go for it.
