Suburban/Jeep/Dodge Informative - 30,000 mile maintenence

Review by uggams on 2007-12-20
NOVI, MICHIGAN -- My fiance took her 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee in for a 30,000 mile maintence schedule. There was nothing that needed repaired. There was a back windshield wiper missing though. The bill came to approximately $900.00. When I looked at the work that was to be performed as stated in the manual, I about fainted when I saw this cost. I called the Chrysler complaint number and the young girl that answered very nonchalantly told me that the dealer could charge any price they wanted. WHAT? Where's the good will relationship between Chrysler and its dealers? She will never buy a Chrysler product again nor take her car to that dealership. I'm starting an anti-Chrysler campaign myself.

This is highway robbery. When I asked jokingly if they could charge $2000.00 for this service she said "any price they want". I personally hope Chrysler goes bankrupt. I and my friends will pass the word along. Stay away from Chrysler.

For most motor vehicles a 30K service is a major maintenance item. With dealer labor near $100@hour, steep mark ups on factory parts and "shop supplies", the bill could easily approach $900. Forget what the little "Airhead" at Chrysler Complaint desk had to say. Most Dealers have scheduled service guidelines and posted pricing for each service, and if you don't see the posted price -- you must ask!

Reference to BWbiker's response concerning my anti-Chrysler dealer service campaign:
If you think a 30,000 mile maintenance which only included: oil change, tuneup, check fluid levels, tire rotation, grease and lube, check tire pressures and a back windo wiper replacement costing $900.00 was reasonable, what world do you live in? Even if the labor cost was $100.00 per hour, how long do you think it would take to perform such minimal tasks? I'll give you a little slack on the tuneup to boot. Who signs your paycheck. It wouldn't be a member of the big three now would it?
