Electric Contract

DALLAS, TEXAS -- The customer service person on the phone suggested I agree to a contract for electricity service. They said their rates were the lowest in Texas. It was an outright lie. They know their rates are some of the highest and offer gimmicks like free weekends when the rate is zero, but jack up the Non-Weekend to an outrageous amount but plaster it on TV.

So I checked around and got a rate including the transportation charges (which Reliant didn't include) of 6.6 cents per KWh. It's almost half of Reliant's rate, was a better rated company and they told the truth. Plus it was all wind energy in Texas and renewable energy with no fossil fuels or nuclear waste. Go to ** to learn the truth about these lying companies and misleading advertisements and statements. Reliant makes me sick!!

Unreliable Services and Plans... You Will Be Sorry if You Choose This CO.

HARKER HEIGHTS, TEXAS -- Zero! Military families near Fort Hood, take this advice. Do not use this company and if you are currently a customer, switch before it is too late. This is the Verizon of energy services. We learned the hard way, but you don't have too. This company have plans that are made to trick customer into paying more. For example, if you select the 2,000W and you are under that amount you will pay penalties. If you select the 1,000W and go over that amount you will pay penalties as well. There is no win-win with this company.

Their customer service will trick you into switching plans by telling you that changing the plan within the company is available to current customers. That is not true! You will be stuck with a plan that doesn't fit your needs. You will be paying, like us, over $400 a month in winter for a small house. Our bill used to be $60 or less in winter season since our house is heated by oil. We decided to cancel our services in December 2019. Paid the final payment of over $350 with penalties on Jan 17, 2020. On February 2020, we received a bill for non-electrical charges. Yes, you read correctly. The company was charging for something other than electricity.

We contacted two customer reps regarding the surprise charges. It seems that the customer representative back in December 2019 was not smart enough to cancel a protection plan (hidden charges we did not know) when we requested to end the contract. It was only $6.99 but I was so upset. After two months I was still dealing with this unreliable company. From one military spouse to another, look for another electrical company.

Overall Not Too Bad but a Couple Things to Consider

DALLAS, TEXAS -- I have Reliant at two different apartments and I am pleased with everything by them. The rates are decent and comparable to other energy providers. Keep in mind their rates change pretty frequently and you might want to call in every now and then to make sure you have the lowest rate. Also, keep in mind when your contact is up you need to look up see if there is a lower rate. They may even bump you to a higher rate.

The app is nice and very easy to use. You can see how much energy you use each day and easily pay bills on it. Their customer service has been polite and professional. I know a lot of people have plenty of bad things to say about energy providers but no complaints here. You can use the link below and it will give you $75 credit if you end up using them. https://www.reliant.com/en/private/deeplink/referrees-customer-referral.jsp?txtReferralID=JKNPSS3

Security & Electric

GRAND PRAIRIE, TEXAS -- Long story short. I had electric service with Reliant and later I signed up for their security service. They required me to leave a deposit on the account and I did. They took my security deposit for not paying by the due date. I paid my bill EVERY month. It was not always by the due date, but I paid every month. Per Reliant I lost my $600.00 deposit for not paying on or before the due date.

Also, with the combined billing if you have open electric charges the will only apply the money to them. Even if you don't have open electric charges the monies will still only be applied to the electric, which will cause you to become late or past due. They don't send out bills for the security. I had to call several times after I had the two services separated. I finally got a bill about 3 mos later. Hmmm.

BEDFORD, TEXAS -- Stay very far away and be careful not to use this company at all! They will rip you off with their "average billing". They will put you on their highest rate and charge you out the wazoo! When we finally cancelled, they sent us a final bill for over $500, even though they've already fleeced us for thousands. I wouldn't even wish these criminals on my worst enemy.

Early Cancellation Fee
By -

FORT WORTH, TEXAS -- Reliant customer for over two years. I decide to switch to another provider, so I called them to check on the terms of my current contract. Reliant agent tells me I'm free to switch at any time. I switch, then get final bill with a 100.00 early cancellation fee added to it. Call Reliant, they say they have received no calls from me (and they can look back a thousand days.) Next day I find a call to them listed on my cell bill, and dated several weeks before I switched. Emailed them with the day and time of call and what number it was from. Now they say, "you called but you didn't ask about terms of contract or status in the call."

Bottom line is they lied to me (said I was free to change without penalty), and will not remove the fee. It is the principle of the thing now, and the way they are treating a former customer that makes me so mad. Trouble is, it's my word against theirs. They are going to get the money, but I will not miss a chance to share this story. I filed a complaint with the PUC, not sure if anything will happen. I for one will not ever recommend Reliant to anyone. This is not the only trouble I have had with them, just the latest.

I could tell you another story where they double billed one month (same amount to the penny on the bill twice days apart). I can't even add up all the time I spent trying to get that corrected. This company in my opinion, cares nothing about customers coming back. If they did they would not treat them like they are treating me. Here's a recent example of good customer service. I had both Blockbuster and Netflix sort of a trial to see which fit my needs best.

I decided to cancel Netflix and go with the other company. Last thing I hear from Netflix is "sorry to lose you please come back anytime". You know, because of that I would. I would recommend them highly as well. That my friend is how you treat customers. Reliant should take a page from their book. I hope this post will save someone from going through what I have gone through with Reliant. They flat lied to me.

Change Our Services With False Information

KINGSVILLE, TEXAS -- A sales person came to my residence saying that he was on behalf of CP&L electric company which is our provider. As he talked to my spouse saying that our provider CP&L was overcharging us and wanted to give us a rebate of 150.00 dollars. All that my wife had to do is place a call so that the rebate would take effect. He went further as he read the bill which is under my name that we were on a month to month contract. As my spouse place the call the call changed our services to Reliant Energy. The salesperson failed to identify himself as an employee of Reliant, he said that CP&L had sent him with false pretense.

Now we find out that our provider is Reliant charging me a 299.00 deposit fee and CP&L charging me early termination fees. We talked to Reliant and they told us the transaction was legal because a recording was made yet the salesperson failed to identify himself that he was on behalf of Reliant, instead he said he was sent by CP&L. I feel we were wronged. I talked to their supervisor that it is unethical. To sent out salespeople using false information. Presently I am stuck and do not know what to do about our situation. I told them I do not want their services I just want to go back to CP&L but they won't switch us.
