Best Buy Complaint - Customer Service & 3 year extended warranty for digital camera
SARASOTA, FLORIDA -- I would like express my dissatisfaction with the customer service department at your store in Sarasota, Florida at 4020 Tamiami Trail South. On June 13, 2006 I purchased a Canon Powershot A-530 camera along with a 3-year extended warranty in your store in Paramis, NJ. Recently, I noticed that the camera would not hold its charge. On Janaury 2. 2008 I took the camera to the Best Buy Store in Sarasota, Florida (since we had moved to Sarasota) and they gave me a complete run-around with the obvious intention of refusing to honor the extended warranty. I had to make 3 trips to the store and all for nothing. On the first trip, they said they would exchange the camera for a comparable one, but a comparable camera was not in stock. So I should return tomorrow. On the second trip, they told me that I had to bring to the store all the equipment that came with the camera (cables, instruction books, etc.) before they would do the exchange. On the 3rd trip, when I brought them the camera with all the equipment, they told me that they would not do the exchange, but would, instead, send it back to the factory for repair. Then, they told me that if the camera was not broken, they would charge me $35 for sending it for repair. They kept coming up with more and more excuses not to honor the warranty. The clerks, including the customer service manager, were discourteous and conveyed the impressions that they didn't care about my problem.
Needless to say, I do not intend to purchase any additional extended warranties since I now know that the store will not honor them. I also have a bad impression of Best Buy and will have to think twice about buying merchandise there again.
