DirecTV Inc Complaint - Not worth your money and your valuable time
HOUSTON, TEXAS -- PLEASE READ BEFORE JOINING DIRECTV Inc.!!!
After checking numerous reviews and calling several cable companies, we decided to go with DTV since they promised the best deal for us. The evening I called they were able to provide me with a deal that after discounts would cost us 34.99 for 12 months. Original price was 59.99 and therefore a great deal. This package included the 150 channel deal with 3 months free movie channels, HD receiver and free installation. (I verified this package with 2 colleagues at DTV by calling them 2 separate times, I took notes and asking for their names and empl no).
Installation - After actual 2 days waiting and delays, we unfortunately had an incompetent installer who drilled holes through the middle of a finished wall(rather than in the corner), he lead the cable through an open door such that the door could not close. He misplaced the dish on our garage wall rather than in the previously repeatidly agreed invisible area on our roof. This was eventually corrected after taking him by the hand and told him what to do step by step, but it left several holes in walls and through our roof which hopefully will not start leaking.
Follow up - The installer did not have a working HDMI cable and suggested for us to call DTV. The representative adviced me to order either an HDMI cable ($50+ at best buy) or get a full HD receiver kit, which I did since they should provide a working cable. After the system worked I returned the original HD receiver to sender by UPS ($10), which seems to be lost now and DTV keeps calling me for this.
Actual cost - DTV promised the 59.99 package for 34.99 but the first bill showed 59.99. After calling customer services for more than an hour, I was informed that they would not be able to provide me with a better deal than 44.99, still $120 more expensive than initially agreed. Employee numbers would not be used to track the individual employee down and it was take it or leave it. In other words assumed to be my mistake.
Cancellation- In the initial telephone call I was ensured that cancellation would be at most $150 and I decided to terminate the service since I was quite disappointed with the entire ordeal. I will rather rent movies than give this company further credit for their mistakes. However,I was now subsequently informed during the terminating call that cancelling this DTV after 2 weeks of service would cost me a grand total of $475,40. I changed to a cheaper package that instant.
change to different package - I now have DTV basic package for $19.99 (of which I had to pack shipping and handling again (3x). Guess what, they have again lost the receiver. I am licking my wounds with a bad small unuseful package, which is worth less than the free TV I was receiving before. I still received a bill of 2 months HD package of 59.99 and I still need to battle this....
I a tired and I know that I can use my money and foremost hours and hours of time better
