VistaPages Complaint - Rude reps, bad attitude, lack of information

Review by rotaadmiral88 on 2008-01-13
I tried to switch hosting for my website to VistaPages. I chose the 2-year option because the site said the cost would be $5.95 per month. What they don't tell you is that they charge you for the full 2 years all at once. I wasn't expecting this and didn't have enough money in the account I was using, so they contacted me and said my card had been declined. This is the point at which I found out they were charging me for everything up front. I told them I'd have to at least wait until payday, but that I'd also reconsider since they hadn't been up front about how they charge customers. I told them they needed to make this clearer on their site. I had no reason to think they'd charge me the total amount up front because the hosting service I'm with now charges me per month. One of their reps responded and was extremely rude, talking down to me like I was an idiot, asking, "Why do you think you're getting a discount?

Of course we charge the full amount up front." I responded and told him again it hadn't been clear and that I thought their service was like the one I have now, and asked him not to contact me again since he'd been rude. He ignored my request to be left alone and e-mailed me again, and was rude again. I forwarded his e-mail to their customer service support and billing departments, but I don't know that they'll do anything about it. In his last e-mail, he said they'd already lost "hundreds of customers" because of their bad attitude and rudeness.

If they're aware of it and attribute losing customers to it, it doesn't sound like they're working on changing anything. Stay away from VistaPages!

Clearly stated in their terms & conditions.
Payment, Renewal, Cancellations

1. Payment Obligations: Full payment is required in advance before hosting service is established. VistaPages sends out invoices that are due every pay period. You are given fifteen (15) days to fully pay the invoice. You warrant and represent that the information you supply in the Order Form (or other information that VistaPages may require) is accurate and truthful. All payment-due notices will be sent by e-mail. No bills or invoices will be sent by postal mail or fax. Customers that elect to pay via Credit Card will be billed automatically on the date of renewal. If payment was not received by the due-date, your account will be suspended and possibly sent to collections. To have your account re-established, you will need to pay the monthly fees, plus any interest that may have accumulated at the rate of 12.35% per year. There is a $35 fee for bounced cheques and a $45 processing fee for chargebacks. All fees mentioned are in US funds.

Ok, now explain the rudeness. Is that in their terms and conditions too? My point was, while I was filling out the service agreement, in all the pages I went through, not once did it show me an amount that I would be charged other than the $5.95 per month. I shouldn't have to go digging to see the amount I'm going to be charged. And regardless of any fine print, no one has an excuse or reason to be nasty to a customer. I stand by my review.

No, there is no excuse for rude customer service.
There is also no excuse for not reading (digging) thru all the fine print if your money you spend matters.
There is a responsibility factor here and it is the consumer's responsibility to read and understand what they are getting into.

I'm getting a free trial from them, and business cards for $4.99 shipping. I'll quit when the free trial is over.

I've had a good experience with them. I just checked my account, and it said that after my free trial, they will bill monthly. When my business cards didn't come I called,I choose the cheapest shipping (3 weeks) and they resent the cards on one week shipping, and I signed for them at my door. Their customer reps were always nice when I called, plus they were all American, which is great Cust. service in itself, and it keeps jobs here. I hate talking to someone out of the country with a thick accent.
