Caribou Coffee Informative - Customer Service - Coffee shop

Review by swasmile on 2008-01-21
MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA -- Caribou has decided to only allow short bathroom breaks for non full-time employees and is forcing them to give customers comment cards. I have no problem with comment cards and Caribou does not have to allow meal breaks, but if they believe this will create a happy workplace they will find out the truth soon enough. If you respect your employees, customers, and the community as is stated on your website please change your new rules.

I do not want to order a coffee from someone that is monitored for using the restroom, hasn't eaten for hours and now has to give me a comment card.

The DO have to allow breaks. Check with OSHA. (Is that right?)

The state law requires employers to provide restroom time and sufficient time to eat a meal. If the break is less than 20 minutes in duration, it must be counted as hours worked. Time to use the nearest restroom must be provided within each four consecutive hours of work. Meal time applies to employees who work eight or more consecutive hours (see Minnesota Statutes 177.253 and 177.254).

Are you full time or part time?
Either way, a 15 minute break for every 4 hours is what I've beem told was the law (I don't know if that varies from State to State)...but I used to work in a warehouse, full time and all we got was our 1/2 morning breaks and no afternoon breaks, just on your feet all day walking the warehouse filling orders.
