Dish Network Complaint - Unauthorized charge on my bank account and more
HELENA, MONTANTA -- I was contacted by a retailer of Dish Network who said they were calling to "check how my installation went". At the time I had been a DishNetwork subscriber at this address for 1yr9mo so I told them their had not been a recent install. He said, "oh, it must be some glitch in our system. Since you've been with DishNetwork for so long we can offer you a free upgrade to HD... blah, blah, blah. Oh, and I just need your SS# to set you up." Well, the red flags went up then and I told him that I would contact Dish Network directly for the upgrade and promptly hung up without furnishing any info. to him.
I then contacted Dish Network thinking that maybe I did need an upgrade. After numerous attempts to just get them to give me the same offer new customers receive - I was told that they would upgrade me for $149 with an instant rebate of $149 and there would be no additional charges(yes, I asked them twice!). I was told no activation fees and no fees of any kind. But they would need my card number since I was now leasing equipment and they would put a hold on my bank account for $1 just to show it was a valid card but it would be removed in a couple days.
The next week after our equipment was installed and agreement was signed - our bank account is charged a $49.99 fee(when I called my bank to find out more info. the teller that I spoke with said, "good luck getting your money back - Dish Network made an unauthorized charge on my acct. of $199 a few weeks ago and I haven't seen a penny of it!!! EEEK!!) and on our dish network acct. statement we are charged $149 for "upgrade charge". Its taken literally close to 7 hours and talking to 15-20 different people(most of whom don't speak English) to get the $149 charge reversed. I'm still working on the bank account charge. They say thats a charge for new service but since Im an existing user they don't know who's Dishnetwork account the $49.99 was credited to since it hasn't been credited to mine??? Which totally blows my mind. I faxed two different people the copy of my bank statement and that was a week ago...no one has returned my calls. By the way, don't be fooled into thinking that when they give you their "direct line" it makes one iota of difference. I have two direct lines but the kicker is...its just a voicemail service - I've left several messages, its been a week and neither of them has returned my call. Now one of the voicemails says it is full so you may not leave a message. Imagine that!
THE BOTTOM LINE IS ... DO NOT HOOK UP WITH DISHNETWORK - YOU MAY INCUR A HUGE AMOUNT OF BOGUS CHARGES AND HAVE NO WAY OF GETTING A REIMBURSED.
