DirecTV Inc Informative - Help getting cancellation fee dropped
ROCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE -- I had to cancel my service with DirecTV recently after only a few months with them, because I had to move and the new landlord would not approve of a dish being put up on his property. The customer service was not very happy and told me they were going to charge me through another month, even though I would not have the service anymore. I said, "No you are not." They said ok eventually. Then I received a bill for $250. a Cancellation fee. I called again and explained my circumstances, and the woman(customer service) told me I was just making excuses and hung up on me. I called again and they gave me the wrong address to send a letter of dispute to. I got another bill and it said if I did not pay it they could charge me even more money. I did some research on line, checking out disputes people have had with them and what to do. Some one wrote and said, to tell them you want to arbitrate and they will drop it. I wrote a letter disputing the charge and said I was looking into arbitrating(this was last week), and got a statement today and they dropped the charge. I am so glad because I wasn't sure what was going to happen and I did not want my credit ruined because of this. So, I am relieved but feel bad for others would have suffered, having to deal with this company.
Maybe if you try what I did it will help. I hope so. Be persistent, it is a pain in the butt, we all have other things we'd like to be doing with our time. But it might pay off in the end. good luck
