Maytag Corporation Complaint - Maytag Dishwasher Recall 2007
ORINDA, CALIFORNIA -- We were extremely disappointed with the manner in which the recent Maytag dishwasher recall was handled. Our dishwasher had been operating fine for 2 years until we received the letter stating that we should immediately cease operating the dishwasher due to risk of fire. It took 10 days to receive the part from Maytag. After the part was installed by the Maytag-suggested service company, the dishwasher would not operate. The company came back to fix it and advised us that a second part was needed. The repair man said that the part was needed due to the recall repair. I called Maytag to ask why I was not told that this could happen. I was told that customers might be "scared off" from repairing their machine if they knew that 2 repairs might be necessary. The repairman returned a week later when I received the second part. He told me that he couldn't fix the washer - I needed a new one. Maytag would only give us $300 toward a new machine - not even close to the cost of replacing.
A week later he returned and thankfully, was able to fix it. In the meantime, I was handwashing dishes for a family of 4 for FOUR weeks. This was totally unacceptable, and all due to a manufacturing defect by Maytag. I feel that I should have been compensated for all of this time (time off work to have repair man fix washer) and effort. Would never purchase another Maytag product again.
