Tryon House Restaurant Complaint - Owner yelled at me when I said food was bad

Review by Anonymous on 2003-09-15
MATTHEWS/CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA -- I don't usually make a "stink" about lousy food, but for almost $9 a plate, I felt a moral obligation to tell the waitress that my mousaka was not good. It looked like custard with a bit of spaguetti sauce underneath. The waitress immediately got the owner (let me add that the waitress also questioned the cook as to whether this was the right order or not). I also mentioned that my 9-year-old child's plate (filet of fish) had bones in it and showed her the proof. She had nothing to offer - not even an apology. She left the table and said, "I don't know what to tell you." We went up to the register afterwards to pay and my husband told them he wasn't paying for my mousaka plate. Again, they got the owner and she insisted that I had EATEN the food (YUK!!) and that I was to pay at LEAST 1/2. She was obviously offended because her husband cooked the meal and HE was Greek. My dad's Greek...that doesn't mean he can cook!! (oh, and to make it funnier...the restaurant claims to be Italian and American cuisine....expert Greek cuisine too??) Long story short...she YELLED at us, threw the cash that she originally insisted we pay her BACK at us and told us never to return there again. What happened to custumer satisfaction?? All over a mere $9 plate?? We WON'T be returning there EVER again. She obviously wasn't taught how to run a business. Oh...and like a bad movie review, I'll be SURE to tell all my friends and neighbors what happened so it doesn't happen to them, too! Better hope everyone that goes there likes their food or LOOK OUT!!!!

Did you eat the food? If you ate it, they expect payment. If you didn't like it, you should have sent it back or at least leave it there untouched, assuming again you do not want to pay for it.

If you don't like the food you don't have to eat it, but you do have to pay for it. Your husband was wrong to tell them he wasn't going to pay.
