GI Consultants New Burton Road Dover, DE Complaint - Cost of getting copies of my medical records

Review by tpandbud on 2008-02-01
DOVER, DELAWARE -- We were referred to Dr Dave located on New Burton Road in Dover, De for a colonoscopy. We had to have a consultation and then scheduled for a scope and then latter for a colonscopy. The procedure was scheduled for the Blue Hen Surgical Center. We went in at the apt time and they took my husband back for the procedure. Two and a half hours latter no one had said a word to me. I asked the receptionist and she took me back only to find out that they had problems stopping the blood. Dr Dave finally showed himself to say to me "Did you expect me to leave your husband to bleed to death while I came out to talk to you".

I took my husband home and returned to his office a week latter to find out that he couldn't get all of the pollop so another colonoscopy was scheduled, this time at the hosp where he had acess to the laser. Again he didn't come out to tell me how it went so we went home thinking all was fine. At the office visit a week latter, we found out he couldn't get to it and now needed to refer him to a specialist. After I contacted our insurance (his office doesn't do that) I called and asked for copies of my husbands records only to be told it would cost $30.00 to get them. The state Licensing Board says charge not to exceed $25.00.

Plus Dr Dave is the one who referred us to the specialist. Beware of Dr charging to much for copies of your records

If the doctor referred you to a specialist, then they should be the one's providing the specialist with the records. The specialist is going to want to go over those records before the visit so he knows what he needs to do and can give you the right advice when he sees you for your visit.

Get those records, even if you have to pay and get your husband to a specialist now. I agree that it isn't right for a doctor to charge you for a report to take to a specialist, If you wanted your entire chart that was years worth of stuff, I could understand the charge. Sounds like Dr. Dave could use a better beside manner too. Good luck to both of you.
